"Let me save you time (and money in utilities) . If you need ANY services Energy Masters can help with, look no further.  Absolute professionals every step of the way, with very extensive knowledge of the industry. I've been in commercial property management for 20 years and I've rarely  encountered a company, professionally or personally,  wherein every single person involved with the project cares so much about their quality of work. I would have expected to pay much more for the resulting success. We've now had record cold and record heat in the short 2 months since the project was completed so I can give a fair review from both perspectives.
Mary accommodated our schedule by coming on a Saturday morning to perform a no obligation audit.  I can't express how happy we were to have made that decision. Mary spent a long time in the crawl space and in the attic, taking photos all the way so we could see the issues. 1) We have been in our home 3 years and never knew we had NO insulation in the crawl space  (we'd never gone down there and the home inspector did not bother to mention this). I'd always wondered why my slate kitchen floor was SO cold. None of the pipes were insulated. The dryer hose had 3 - 90 degree 'kinks' in it which Energy masters rectified for us.2)  The insulation in the attic was all to one side, leaving the other side with none. None of the duct work was insulated, etc. Air leaks everywhere. 3) Even though we had the heat set at 70 degrees I had always felt cold in the winter and the air from the heating ducts seemed to blow cool.  Mary showed us how the ducts were not sealed properly which was allowing the cold air from the crawl space to be blown up with the warm air. Not only did this cause us to run the heat much more often, that undesirable crawl space air was infiltrating our home. YUK!4) There were a number of other small issues taken care of, as well as a couple more we will address in the near future. When Mary says a 'complete audit', complete it is!
To address the air conditioning:  My (retired) husband is at home during the day so he knows when the air conditioning (or heat) usually kicks on. It was 95 degrees outside and he expected the air to go on at 1 pm, as in the past. Not with our new insulation! The air did not go on until 5:30 pm, ran a couple short times maintaining the 72 degrees we'd set it at, and then it was time to turn it off and open the windows for the evening. I can't wait to see our NV Energy bill for the past month; (when's the last time you could say the, eh?) Our last one was down $56 from average, taking into account corresponding temps of the prior year. This project was to be a 10 year payback. I have no doubt it will be far sooner.
One final word about the employees who worked on our project with Mary, Adolfo and Marcos. Again, professionals with great knowledge.  They worked methodically, carefully and took great pride in their work. You felt that your project was their only concern - no rush to finish and get on to another job.  Just as we felt 100% comfortable with Mary being in our home, we felt as comfortable with Adolfo and Marcos being there. We went about our daily business and just had them lock the house when they were through for the day. Not may contractors elicit that degree of trust. Thanks to you all for an job very well done!!!"

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

"They custom make the windows and Fed-Ex them to you. We installed them ourselves to save money. Once we put them in, we couldn't hear outside noise anymore. It made a world of difference. I think it has also helped insulate my home a little. For the cost, I think it would have been twice as much to have the windows replaced."

"I hired Troy because he had done work for me before and had been impressed with his skill level.  I knew this would be a difficult project, requiring a varied skill set which would include everything from framing to finish work.  This project had to be framed properly due to the complexity of the alignment of the angled soffit over the steam/shower room.

Troy first performed the complicated part of the demolition, knowing where to cut and where not to cut, as there were wires, pipes, and beams that could not be disturbed, and drywal that we did not want to disturb as to not have to redo unnecessary work later.

After it was all clean, he constructed a frame for the new shower.  Since the new steam system will be hidden above the shower stall, he had to construct a soffit to house the equipment, but the soffit had to be perfectly aligned with the shower stall walls, so that when we install the glass panes, everything will line up perfectly.  He anchored the shower stall walls all the way down to the concrete slab the is underneath the floor (this used to be an old garage), to give them strength, as well as the posts that support the beam.

He left the framing ready for the plumber and electrician to come in and do their jobs, and cleaned the jobsite impecably.

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Knowing what causes drywall damage can help stop it before it starts. Here are some of the most common causes of drywall damage:

  • Water damage from roof leaks or leaky pipes.

  • Small holes caused by doorknobs, minor accidents, and rodent infestations.

  • Wall dents stemming from moving furniture and minor accidents.

  • Wall cracks that form from a settling foundation or seismic activity.

  • Nail pops from nails and screws in the walls.

  • Large holes that are caused by accidents with heavy objects, children and pets, or sporting equipment.

Brick and stucco are a lot more different. You must use picture hanging clips designed for brick walls, or use a plaster rail system with adjustable hooks. Any other type of hanging hardware will cause damage to the bricks behind. You won’t be able to really use nails, either, because they’re not strong enough to go into the bricks.

Regularly in areas prone to moisture or high traffic to catch issues early.

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.

Textured walls can increase the value of your home if the style is modern and seen as a desirable feature and not something a prospective buyer would need to remedy. A good example of this is popcorn texture versus Venetian plaster. The plaster wall would add value to your home, whereas the popcorn texture may be something a new buyer would want to remove.
