Text him Monday and he said he would be by Wednesday between 9-10 but no showed and did not respond to texts. Although it’s not required to lay anything under mulch, it can help to put landscape fabric or plastic weed barrier down and lay mulch on top. The barrier helps keep weeds from growing up through your mulch. It also helps keep rodents and insects from burrowing into the ground underneath.

You should use mulch because it protects garden soil in a few key ways. This extra layer between the ground and the elements protects against erosion, helps your soil maintain moisture, regulates changes in temperature, adds nutrients as it decomposes, and keeps weeds at bay.

Grass varieties such as tall fescue, zoysia, Bermuda, Bahia, and centipede grow best in sandy soil. These types of grass are drought resistant, so they help retain water and nutrients more easily. Consult a local lawn care company to determine the best type of grass to plant in your sandy lawn.

You shouldn’t put topsoil over new grass seed. Even though it may seem like this would increase soil contact and help the seeds grow, adding more soil overtop of planted grass seed will only make it harder for water and oxygen to reach the grass seeds. If you want to protect the grass seeds, consider adding a thin layer of organic matter, such as straw or hay.
