"I hired them to replace my roof. As far as I can tell (since I will not get up on a ladder), they did a fine job. However, the work crew did not communicate with me about their schedule and when I needed to be around. They also did not clean up much at the end of each day, though they did clean up after they completed the work. The person who planned the job was great to work with."

"This was the most talented group of people we’ve met in our home remodel. They have done an amazing job. This was my accent wall with a recessed TV and an LED fireplace. It is phenomenal everybody that sees it loves it. I’ve never seen anything done so cool.! Reed, Omar Pedro all of them deliver on time and really just try to do the right thing and make your home nice! They are fixing all kinds of issues in our house from a bad contractor!"

"The remodel went great! We just had Barbara and her awesome team (Rob,Armando,Tony and Johnny) over to my mothers house to take out her bathtub and install a walk-in shower with grab bars and it turned out fantastic. We had Designer Kitchens & Baths a year ago totally gut out our kitchen and now it’s fabulous! They also helped us update our bathrooms. Their work is clean, they are on time and very professional and kind. Demo for all projects were done quickly and debris was removed right away. We would definitely recommend Designer Kitchens & Baths to anyone thinking of a remodel or update. You will be pleased, we are!"

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

You should consider replacing your bathtub if the tub—or any potential refinishing—is older than about 20 years old. However, acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs have a shorter lifespan (about 10 to 15 years). You may decide to replace your bathtub sooner if there are stains or mold you can’t get rid of, no matter how much you clean it, or if you find leaks and cracks that could lead to costly water damage.

Resurfacing a bathtub is less expensive than replacing one. Resurfacing a tub costs about $330 to $630, depending on the material, while replacing a tub costs an average of $4,150. But remember that resurfacing is a temporary solution for a worn-out tub, and you may need to refinish a tub every few years to keep it looking new.

Start by gutting the old fixtures and features that need to be removed, such as the tile, vanity, and flooring. You may benefit by removing the toilet, even if you intend to use the same one. Next, install the new shower or tub, followed by the flooring, and then the drywall, which you should then paint. After that, install your new cabinets, vanity, countertop, sink, and faucet, in that order. Replace your light fixture next. Lastly, reconnect the toilet.

It is possible to install a two-in-one unit that has both a shower and a walk-in tub so you can still have both in smaller bathrooms or provide a showerhead for those in the household who prefer taking showers. You’ll hear these referred to as walk-in tub and shower combo units. Keep in mind that these combo units can take up more space than a standard shower or tub, and you’ll most likely need to hire a pro to install one.

While they’re heavier than their counterparts, cast-iron tubs are very simple to maintain. They have no seams and are durable, making them the easiest tub to maintain. While fiberglass and acrylic tubs are also relatively simple to maintain, they often have seams, making maintenance a little more difficult.
