"The price was good. They had a machine that kept breaking and wasn't working right. The kept having problems with the radiant barrier. He's a good guy, good to work with and prompt. They did a good job with the fiber glass insulation. He said he normally does more commercial work, I probably wouldn't use them again."

"

This was a wonderful experience.  I had previously used this company for attic insulation and an energy audit.  I was impressed with that job and am also impressed with the Solar Electrical system we had installed.  It appears to be operating in excess of 80% efficiency and we will probably go to net zero and build credits on our electrical bills in October, 2014.

Today's Energy Store is a small local company with professional employees and equipment.  They do not sub contract their work out to other companies and their employees are full time, not temporary help.

A check of Clark County Record's indicates that this company is not involved in litigation, such as mechanic's liens or lawsuits.  This tells me that they do the work promised and don't have trouble being paid, as was true of our experience.

"Bruce replaced the rusted plumbing parts on a PVB connection on the outside water line. They were only able to reuse the backflow devise. A new line with fittings was completed. An outside Stucco repairman was brought in to repatch the stucco, insulation foam and did textured painting for $175 which was included. Work was completed on the first visit."

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

"We wanted to compare Sears plan for replacing 14 windows, 1 sliding door, and attic insulation with other providers in the area.  The estimate representative was very well prepared, professional, punctual and did not pressure us.  Their prices were a little high but still competitive.  We decided to go with another company because they offered triple pane windows."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

It is more difficult to drywall a ceiling than it is to drywall a wall, but not so hard that DIYers can’t tackle it. One of the main issues with hanging drywall on your ceiling is getting it into place. Drywall isn’t light so, if you are hanging full drywall panels, you will need at least two (it’s better with more) people to hold the panel while you drill it into the ceiling as a single piece can weigh between 40 and 60 pounds and will need to be held in place for up to 10 minutes.

Yes, it matters which side of drywall you use. One side is smooth, and the other is rough. The smooth side should be facing outward, toward the room, while the rough side should be hidden and facing the studs and framing of the house. The smooth side will be easier to apply tape, joint compound, and, later, paint to.

While a normal moisture level for drywall is between 5% and 12%, replacement is recommended if you get consistent readings above 17%. At this level, the drywall is likely too compromised by extensive moisture damage to be considered safe. You can replace either the entire sheet or just the affected section. If you are unsure after a visual inspection, it is best to have a contractor or water restoration provider use a professional moisture meter to get an accurate reading.

Plastering and skimming are two different techniques for finishing walls. Plastering involves applying a thick layer of a plaster mixture—typically containing gypsum, lime, cement, sand, and water—to create a new surface. This process often requires multiple coats and is used for repairing significant damage or creating decorative textures. Skimming, on the other hand, is a technique that involves applying a thin layer of drywall compound or joint compound over an existing surface to smooth it out, covering minor imperfections, small cracks, or uneven textures for a polished look. Plastering is generally more costly and labor-intensive than skimming. Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they refer to different processes and materials.

Only use spackle on plaster walls when the imperfection is small. It’s best used for nail holes or small dings in the plaster. Spackle dries quickly, allowing you to continue the repair process shortly after using it. Plaster can be tricky to repair, though, so if you run into issues, call a pro so that you don’t risk further damage.
