"We were contracted with Cerl for a home inspection. Do not use them. They are not accredited and do their own test. I would NEVER let them in my home! They tore apart our home and there was no bad mold! They are a nightmare!!!"

"My elderly parents had foundation drainage issues in Las Cruces. I no longer live in NM and found Mike through Home Advisor. I contacted him & explaining the problem. Mike was extremely knowledgeable, professional & courteous. He provided ideas to solve the issues and I felt I could trust him to meet my parents. My parents found him to be punctual, courteous & very trustworthy, a pleasure to work with. Mike also recommended other trustworthy professionals to meet their other needs. Mike exceeded our expectations & my parents were very happy & we would recommend Mike to anyone."

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Soaking memory foam can break down its structure over time or even encourage mold growth. However, brief encounters with moisture will not ruin your memory foam. As long as the mattress, topper, or cushion dries soon after getting wet, there's nothing to worry about. Just be sure to keep the affected item in an area with plenty of air and sun to encourage quick drying.

Some causes of brown well water—like excess tannins or dissolved iron—don’t pose a health risk. In other cases, harmful bacteria might be the culprit. If your well water has suddenly turned brown, it’s a good idea to use a home water test kit to get a better sense of what’s going on with your water. Consider calling a professional for an expert opinion before drinking the water and hoping for the best.

Mold thrives in wet and humid conditions, and the bathroom can often be an ideal place for it to grow. If you are worried about mold, it's a good idea to hire a local mold inspector to inspect your bathroom.

How you handle the mold depends on the extent of the issue. If it's on the caulk or other surface, a deep cleaning with mold-killing products such as vinegar or bleach may be sufficient. For a large infestation, you'll most likely need professional mold remediation.

Fiber cement siding is resistant to mold and mildew, so it won’t be as affected by these problems as something like wood siding. However, damage to your siding or improper installation can still lead to water getting behind your siding, in which case, mold can grow behind it and damage other building materials. Contact a siding repair professional if you suspect you have a leak.

Yes, it is generally unhealthy and can be dangerous to live in a damp basement. The damp air can negatively affect your breathing and lungs, and the moisture promotes mold growth and pest infestations. Inhaling mold spores or waste particles from insects and rodents attracted to the moisture can be hazardous. This damp, moldy air can also circulate into your main living area. It is crucial to resolve any moisture problems and implement preventative measures before using your basement as a living space.
