Small jobs welcome

"DC LLC/Chris McDaniel did an outstanding job for NNMC's El Rito Campus. They pulled electricity to our greenhouse and installed irrigation systems at both the greenhouse and our rain gardens. From start to finish, their work was top-notch ? knowledgeable, professional, and thorough. What really set them apart was how well they worked with our facilities team and how they kept communication open throughout the entire project. Chris genuinely cares about the quality of his work and it shows. They were helpful, responsive, and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend DC LLC for anyone looking for a reliable, skilled contractor. We couldn't have asked for a better experience."

"Cannot say enough good things about CSM. After having lived in New Mexico for over 10 years Iâ ve been underwhelmed with the level of service from the artisan contractor arena. That all changed with CSM. They showed up to the give an estimate on time. The provided me needed information in a timely manner. They put me on their schedule to fit a tight timeline I needed to hit. Their work was amazing. Super clean loom toy he install. Printed labels for the new breaker. Apt and capable for the work they were asked to do. I feel that their rates were competitive but based on the results their value is off the charts. BTW at the end of the job the left the area immaculately clean."

"We initially had a professional detailed review of house vents and air flow layout (Blake), meticulously researching all products requested and AC compatibility with current furnace (AC goes under furnace), from extremely knowledgable estimator/sales. Afterwards Wagner performed a thorough and impeccable one day (HVAC), to two day (upgrade electrical panel and add transfer switch panel for portable generator, and add additional exterior outlet on garage shop) installation. They sent 3 separate crews to house in one day. Levi (electrician) upgraded the electrical panel on house (Siemens solar ready panel) for house, installing transfer switch (ProTran for portable generator), put in additional electrical 220 outlet outside shop area. Major job very professionally completed. Another crew installed Mitsubishi mini split into shop garage, and a third crew installed (Carrier) central air conditioning into house, removing the inefficient swamper cooler. Major work on our house was performed, with incredible workmanship, and almost half the price of the local competitor. You read that right. Half the price for the SAME equipment quoted by the competitor. What more can I say? Wagner Mechanical is now our go-to for plumbing, heating, electrical, and HVAC. We very highly recommend Wagner Mechanical. The competitor is obviously price gouging and empire building, as we had suspected, when we were getting our quotes. Before you commit to any other company, you may want to give Wagner Mechanical a call to give you an estimate on your job, and then decide. The crew that Wagner hires are quite knowledgable, friendly, incredibly experienced, and very efficient; they know their professions, they know how to get the Jobe done, and they work well within their teams. They do a thorough and complete job and neatly clean up. They are extremely skilled professionals at a very reasonable price. The house is so cool and quiet now (no fans!) and comfortable in the summer heat, with everything completed in a 2 day time frame. Wow!! We should've called Wagner Mechanical at the beginning of summer instead of the end of summer. Give them a thumbs up when you see them driving around in their trucks around town, they are the best. And if you need any kind of work completed, don't hesitate to call Wagner first (not the other guys)."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Generally, you’ll want to keep between 60 and 70 feet between the generator and the transfer switch. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • The distance reduces the noise coming from the generator into your home.

  • It increases efficiency because you won’t have a voltage drop from this short of a distance.

  • Prevents carbon monoxide poisoning: keep at least 15 feet between your generator and an open window.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

You can expect a diesel generator to last for up to 30,000 hours of use, which works out to 20 to 25 years with the proper maintenance, of course. That depends on how much you use it, so a diesel generator used for emergencies a couple of times a year will last a lot longer than a generator that takes over for a faulty electrical grid every month for a day or two.

It’s usually better to repair your generator if it isn’t working properly, as it will typically be much more affordable and should yield similar results. Generator repairs cost around $300 on average, while installing a new whole-house generator costs around $5,000 on average. The only exception is if you know your generator is reaching the end of its useful life, usually between 30 and 40 years. If you have an older generator, you could face multiple repairs in the coming years, which might mean that a full replacement will be more cost-effective over time.

Energy output depends on turbine size, average wind speed at your site, and system efficiency. A 5 kW turbine in a good wind location can generate 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which may cover a large portion of an average home’s needs. Accurate output estimates require a professional wind assessment and a review of your household’s energy usage patterns.
