The main priority was established to fix the leak in the roof before anymore damage was done. Later the metal roof was installed and I am very pleased with my new roof! Mr. Varela and his crew are all very professional and very courteous. The workers always asked permission to access areas where this was a gate and when finished you couldn't find a scrap anywhere. Thomas became an Army officer in 1984. In 1989, Thomas earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at El Paso majoring in Finance and Marketing. From 1989 to 1997 he worked in Los Angeles, Austin and Albuquerque in various capacities as a regional manager for a hamburger chain and also a convenience store chain. In 1997, Thomas earned his Master in Business Administration from the University of New Mexico majoring in Production Operations Management. Upon completion of his MBA he went to work for Intel Corporation and worked in the purchasing and sales departments. In 2000, while working at Intel he returned to UNM to work on his Master of Engineering degree concentrating in Structural engineering. In 2004 Thomas started Southwest Roofing and has been the owner since that time.

No, you can’t use your home’s square footage. You have to calculate your roof’s square footage, and then you may have to convert your square footage measurement to correspond with how the roofing material is measured. For instance, some roofing is sold in “squares,” which equals the total square footage of the roof divided by 100. Shingles are sold in bundles that may not correspond to the number of squares you need. Metal roofing is sold as sheets, so determine the amount of square feet each panel will cover and then divide the total square footage by the coverage area.

Whether flashing goes over or under shingles depends on the type of flashing. For example, with step flashing, the shingles go on top, but they overlap one another. So technically, flashing goes both over and under shingles. But generally speaking, flashing goes under shingles and beneath the house siding. And in most cases, you can't see the flashing from the ground.

It is not always necessary to put wood stripping (also called furring strips) under a metal roof, but some metal roofs require stripping to work efficiently. For example, you must use furring strips when installing metal over shingles in order to connect the shingles to the metal roofing. These strips are made of metal or wood.
