"Background:
This is my 5th home and I have had remodeling projects in the past. In this case the remodel was isolated to the kitchen and one bedroom that we wanted a shower installed. In addition we were considering removing carpet from 2 bedrooms and replacing with tile. Babcock Construction is a family owned business started in 1968 and together with the founder, his 3 sons are involved in the business as both craftsman and the business end. They have a conveniently located office/shop in Santa Fe. It is difficult not to be impressed with their facility. It is large, clean and contains many sub shops for cabinet making, carpentry and other typical construction type shops. The difference to others I have seen is the appearance as everything is spotlessly clean and organized. That impressed me as an introduction to the company. When they arrived for the  estimate, all of the company brothers and their father arrived and they provided their vision based on a brief outline of what I was looking for. I was immediately impressed with what they were saying and more importantly, how they would do the work. They have various craftsman on staff with the exception of plumbers and electricians however; they have vetted through the years several of each and Babcock had them come to the house for an estimate.
Responsiveness:
At all stages, they were available to answer any questions. This included weekends or evening hours. One of the sons (Steve) was designated as the site foreman and he was there every day overseeing and applying his trade for both detailed tile work, painting, carpentry and refinishing several doors. Early on it became apparent that based on what I was seeing, I wanted to add to my initial project. Steve would tell me what could be done, provide an estimate (after consultation with his brother Richard) and leave it at that. There was never any encouragement or pressure from Babcock to have them perform the additional work.
Quality:
The quality is unlike any contractor I have used in the past. Their attention to detail is nothing short of remarkable. They moved and covered furniture each time it was needed. With any construction project dust and debris are inherent. They did their level best to mitigate this issue everyday. At the conclusion of each workday, they were very thorough in cleaning up their specific location that had been worked on that day and neatly put away their tools in the designated area (garage). Never did I arrive home to find a "mess".
Dependability:
The crew arrived each morning without fail at 7:30AM. There was a minimum of 3 workers but often times up to 5. They actually worked on a federal holiday. At the end of each day I was given an update on what had been accomplished and the schedule for the next day or beyond in some cases.
Professionalism:
Without exception all of the craftsman maintained the highest level of professionalism that I have seen on any construction site. These folks went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied in all that they did which included asking how I liked the progress, recently completed job and many other items of interest to me.
Price:
Being somewhat of a "miser" I was always on top of the price for each project be it the base contract or the many add ons that I contracted for. In the end, the "you get what you pay for" axiom proved to be true. Never did I feel I was charged more than was reasonable.
Summary:
Babcock provided a detailed professional result while keeping the customers needs at the forefront of all that they did. Their degree of professional service is above reproach. The quality I am convinced, can not be overstated. The bottom line is that you can not go wrong contracting with them. You will find customer service, communication and quality is at the top of the list in all that they do.

"I had an old jacuzzi tub replaced with a walk-in shower. Workers, Ciaran and Derek McKenna were great. They were focused and fast in their work. With unforseen plumbing problems, they had their master plumber and project director on hand and the problem was fixed within the hour. They were very good at keeping me appraised of any changes in completion and time constraints due to rain. They were good natured and responsive with any questions. My new shower is beautiful! The glass wall installation is taking a more time, not connected to McKennas work. Mahssa Sabouhi, project director, was also great in overseeing the project and helpful, as needed. I would recommend Dreamstyles with this crew anytime."

"The service went very well.  I called and asked if a plumber could come and change our expansion tank off of our hot water heater and was told that the plumber would be there between 1 and 3.  About 15 minutes before 1, the plumber called and asked if he could come by.
The service at the house went well and he used buckets and towels to make sure he didn't spill water everywhere.  The water that did drip on our garage floor was cleaned up before he left.
They accept credit cards and are very professional, I'd use them again!

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Yes, short hair can clog a drain. While you might be tempted to blame the long-haired people living with you for a clogged drain, hair—no matter the length—can combine with soap scum and leftover shampoo to create a perfect storm of sticky mess that can cause your drain to slow down.

A water hammer refers to the banging or knocking sound you hear in your water pipes after you turn off your faucet or when your washing machine or dishwater fills. This happens when highly pressurized water suddenly stops moving in your pipes due to a valve closing or your well pump shutting down quickly. Try adjusting the pressure setting on your water pressure tank—it should be below 50 psi (pounds per square inch). Or have a plumber install a water hammer arrestor.

How much it will cost to install an earthquake shut-off valve depends on who’s doing the installation. The price of the earthquake shut-off valve itself can cost between $250 and $750, and you’ll pay between $150 and $200 for labor if you hire a licensed plumbing contractor. If you install the valve yourself, you’ll save on labor, but you might need to spend $50 to $300 on the right tools for the job (and it’s a complex job that we don’t recommend DIYing).

Yes, it is safe to turn off the main water valve. As long as you don’t force the shut-off valve and break it, you can’t damage the water supply pipes by shutting off the water. We wouldn’t recommend shutting it off regularly without a good reason. However, when you need to know what to do in a plumbing emergency, shutting off the water main is a safe way to reduce water damage inside your home.

First, find the cleanout pipe in your yard. Unscrew the cap—you may need a wrench to do so. Then, get a drain snake. You can use a non-motorized one, but a motorized snake will make the job a little easier. Feed the snake through the pipe until it reaches the clog. Spin the snake continuously, but don’t try to feed it through the pipe anymore. Keep spinning until you feel it break the clog apart.
