"I obtained 3 quotes for painting in my house which included removing old wallpaper in one room before painting and included included a bedroom, bath and hallway. Affordable Weaver is truly affordable. Their cost estimate was 40% less than the other 2 quotes. The team of 4 arrived promptly at 7:30 am and finished the job in 1 day. Very neat and clean with no paint drippings on my wood baseboards or floor. The owners are a pleasure to deal with and the painting crew took time to understand what color paint I needed in each room. Highly recommend!"

"During a big storm, we suffered major water damage in our home and consequently had to remove wet drywall in several areas (entry, powder room, back porch, master bedroom, third floor bedroom) . We needed someone who could come into these areas, add new insulation and trim, and replace the missing drywall. We also decided to have a soundproofing product called QuietRock installed in two rooms to cut down on noise from our neighbors.

Because we have multiple pets and two young children with varying nap schedules, we needed someone who could work quickly and be trustworthy. Larry Doyle of Doyle Drywall was great. We ended up having him do the work while we were out of town for the holiday and it worked out great.

Larry was very professional, had great communication, was considerate of our needs, and employed high quality standards. Because of our need to complete the job while we were away, he started the day after Thanksgiving and worked through the weekend into early the next week. Our housesitter, who was here the entire time while the work was being complete, said Larry was always very pleasant, punctual, and professional. When we returned, we were happy with the work done and the fact that he was able to complete everything before our return. We highly recommend using Doyle Drywall and would defnitely hire him again. As an interior designer, I would defnitely use him on client projects as well."

"Dominic arrived on time, with the supplies we agreed to in advance. He set to work and removed the old tile ceiling which was stained and falling down. He removed the tiles the nails the staples and the old molding. He installed the new dry wall ceiling, taped, speckled and cleaned up the area he repaired and the garage where he was working. I was so pleased I will have him back to do other painting and shelf installation.

"I emailed the company (website linked from Angie's List). Luis called me the same day and showed up to estimate the job the next day. A week later we met with the color consultant Joy. 100.00 very well spent. Four days later (Tues.) 2 men started removing wallpaper, prepped the BR and repaired where needed and one worked on the LR/DR from 9:30-4:30. Wed they covered the kitchen cabinets and worked on the LR/DR while one continued on the BR. Thur. men did not show up until 10:40, but everything was painted. Fri morning was finishing, inspection and payment. Men were very agreeable to any little place we wanted repaired or touched-up."

".He came one day after i called for an estimate and gave a lower estimate in case we wanted to try to finish removing the paper and buy the paint. we said no give us an estimate with all the work done by him the second estimate was $460 and still was well worth it for the work it involved. He had a couple of days work because of the skimcoating needing drying time. from beginning to end, he was here 3 times and each time at exactly 8:30 AM. he worked diligently and was an extremely competent painter. i decided to call him the wall doctor because i didn't think anybody could fix our horrible wall that nice for so little. i recommend him to anybody.

"I am in the process of preparing my home for sale in Barrington and as part of that prep, I needed a great room, kitchen, and hallways painted. Bill gave me a very reasonable quote, was able to do get to my job quicky, and best of all, did an outstanding job on walls that were not in great shape to start with. 5 stars all around. Highly recommend!"

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

The pros of wallpaper include its durability and longer lifespan than paint, as well as its versatility. The durability can translate to lower long-term costs for upkeep and replacement, and the versatility means you have more options for customizing rooms in your home. Some downsides include that it’s difficult to remove, it’s not ideal for rooms or areas exposed to high moisture content or sun exposure, and it’s tricky to install. A professional wallpaper hanger can help mitigate these issues, though, by installing it properly and in areas suitable for wallpaper.

When comparing peel-and-stick and traditional wallpaper, the better choice depends on your specific needs and space. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is more budget-friendly and easier to DIY install. On the other hand, traditional wallpaper lasts much longer and holds up better in a wider variety of spaces, including areas with moisture like kitchens and bathrooms.

We don’t recommend wallpapering over older paper. That’s because creating layers of glue can invite bubbling or excess moisture on the wall’s surface. You should also prime your wall before applying wallpaper and smooth the wall as much as you can, and another layer of wallpaper complicates this process.

You may end up with extra wallpaper once your project is finished. Hang on to that wallpaper, as you may need to use it to patch up areas that get damaged later on. If you have a lot of excess wallpaper, try getting creative with it. You can use it to line the inside of a cabinet or drawers, for example.

Peel-and-stick wallpaper is designed to be removed without damaging walls, making it a good choice for renters or temporary design changes. However, damage to paint or drywall can occur under certain conditions. To prevent issues, the wall surface must be properly prepared before application—it should be clean, smooth, dry, and correctly primed or painted. Applying wallpaper to a freshly painted surface can cause the paint to peel off during removal. Additionally, removing the wallpaper too quickly or aggressively can also cause damage. For best results, always follow the manufacturer's instructions for both application and removal.
