"I had my electrical panel replaced and an interlock device installed for my portable generator. Ryland was very professional from start to finish. Ryan came quickly for the estimate and when he found an issue with my outside wiring he explained it to me and showed me the problem. I felt the price was more than fair and I would use this company again."

"Current Electric Contracting LLC was efficient and professional in their overall response to our issue. We had to have a few breakers replaced in our panel. Their pricing was fair. We will definitely keep them in our contractor database and hire them again."

"MDL Electric provided excellent work on short notice. We are selling our condo and needed to get the electrical panel labeled last minute. He was able to come right away, was professional and punctual. I will definitely call him again for any future work. Price was reasonable as well."

"Lawrence was extremely responsive. He came the same day that I called him to take a look at the partial power issue in my building. We ended up having to get PSEG involved before we could resolve anything. He came back a 2nd time to meet PSEG the following week. The partial power issue apparently resolved itself that same day that he was present, no actual repair was done. The next day the partial power issue resurfaced. I called Lawrence to see if he had any suggestions, which I executed, but it did not turn the power back on. It was possible that the nor'easter had caused the issue, so I called PSEG to come out again. PSEG confirmed power was running to the building. In the end, I hired a different electrician who figured out the problem was the main which needed to be replaced. Lawrence did give me a reasonable estimate for a different job in the same building. I appreciated the fact that he came the same day I called him, and that he came back several days later to meet with the electric company. I did pay him for coming out both days, but I was a little disappointed that the issue was never resolved."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Union, persistent breaker trips, flickering lights, or a burning odor near outlets usually signal electrical issues. If only one appliance is affected, the problem may be with that device. Water near electrical panels, especially after heavy rain or flooding, requires both electrical and plumbing attention. For panel upgrades, new circuits, or storm damage, consult a qualified local professional.

Helpful?

In Union, keep a non-contact voltage tester, multimeter, and GFCI tester for basic troubleshooting and safety. Essential hand tools include insulated screwdrivers, wire strippers, and electrical tape. Stock wire nuts, dielectric grease for outdoor connections, and extra GFCI outlets. For emergencies, have a flashlight, portable charger, battery-powered radio, and heavy-duty extension cords to stay prepared during power outages or storms.

Helpful?

Electrical maintenance in Union should include annual inspections of your panel for signs of rust or moisture, and monthly testing of GFCI outlets. Check outlets and switches regularly for damage or discoloration. After storms, inspect outdoor wiring and connections for wear or water intrusion. Seasonal checks of HVAC electrical connections and using dehumidifiers in basements help protect your home’s electrical system year-round.

Helpful?

If your Union home was built before 1980, or you notice frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or outlets that feel warm, it’s likely time for electrical upgrades. Original aluminum or cloth-wrapped wiring, two-prong outlets, or reliance on extension cords are strong indicators. Upgrading helps your home meet current code, increases safety, and supports modern appliances common in Union households.

Helpful?

For homes in Union, copper wiring is recommended for reliability and safety. Use NM-B cable for most indoor projects and THHN wire for areas exposed to moisture, like basements. Install GFCI outlets in kitchens and bathrooms, and AFCI breakers in bedrooms. Outdoor outlets should be weather-resistant, and surge protectors are wise due to frequent storms in Union. Moisture-resistant components help protect older homes.
