"Ryland did a very thorough, professional job. Ryan and his team of three were at my home on time and did not leave until every detail was attended to. The panel box was labeled, all debris cleaned up, and I was given a lesson on how to use my generator when needed. I am very satisfied!"

"Current Electric Contracting LLC was efficient and professional in their overall response to our issue. We had to have a few breakers replaced in our panel. Their pricing was fair. We will definitely keep them in our contractor database and hire them again."

"Lawrence was extremely responsive. He came the same day that I called him to take a look at the partial power issue in my building. We ended up having to get PSEG involved before we could resolve anything. He came back a 2nd time to meet PSEG the following week. The partial power issue apparently resolved itself that same day that he was present, no actual repair was done. The next day the partial power issue resurfaced. I called Lawrence to see if he had any suggestions, which I executed, but it did not turn the power back on. It was possible that the nor'easter had caused the issue, so I called PSEG to come out again. PSEG confirmed power was running to the building. In the end, I hired a different electrician who figured out the problem was the main which needed to be replaced. Lawrence did give me a reasonable estimate for a different job in the same building. I appreciated the fact that he came the same day I called him, and that he came back several days later to meet with the electric company. I did pay him for coming out both days, but I was a little disappointed that the issue was never resolved."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

After completing an electrical project in Maplewood, arrange for a final inspection with the township within 24 to 48 hours to confirm code compliance. Keep all permits and inspection records safely stored for future reference. Test each new circuit using appropriate load equipment, and verify that GFCI and AFCI protections are properly installed. Request a detailed walkthrough from your contractor to ensure you fully understand the new electrical features.

Helpful?

In Maplewood, flickering lights, frequent breaker trips, or outlets that feel warm to the touch are clear warning signs. A persistent burning smell or buzzing from switches also signals potential hazards. If electrical work was done without township permits or does not meet current code, your home’s safety and insurance may be at risk. Non-GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, or basements should be updated promptly.

Helpful?

In Maplewood, main electrical panels in homes built before 1970 often require upgrades to meet safety standards. Historic homes may still have knob-and-tube wiring, which should be replaced. Kitchens frequently need more outlets for modern appliances, while basements and bathrooms often require updated GFCI protection. Outdoor lighting and receptacles also need regular attention due to Maplewood’s changing weather conditions.

Helpful?

In Maplewood, electrical maintenance should include checking your panel twice a year for signs of moisture or corrosion, especially due to seasonal humidity. Test GFCI outlets monthly, focusing on areas like basements and bathrooms. Inspect outdoor outlets and lighting every season, and schedule an annual professional inspection—this is especially important for older homes in Maplewood that may have aging wiring or outdated panels.

Helpful?

For electrical maintenance in Maplewood, keep a non-contact voltage tester, multimeter, wire strippers, and high-quality electrical tape on hand. Stock GFCI outlets, common circuit breakers, and weatherproof outlet covers for outdoor use. Outdoor-rated wire nuts are essential for repairs in damp conditions. Flashlights and a battery-powered radio are helpful during outages, while surge protectors and assorted wire nuts add extra safety and convenience.
