"We had an issue in our house, with some of our electricity being off and some remaining on. we were told, on the phone, that it could be one of a few things. Don and Pat came the next day, promptly at the time we were told. They checked out the system and told us that it was a line issue. Don told us that PSE&G should take the amount of his bill off our electrical bill. His bill was reasonable, even if we weren't able to have it deducted. We would hire DLP again."

"Current Electric Contracting LLC was efficient and professional in their overall response to our issue. We had to have a few breakers replaced in our panel. Their pricing was fair. We will definitely keep them in our contractor database and hire them again."

"I was very pleased with the whole purchase and installation process. A generator installation requires both natural gas plumbing and electrical work and multiple Township inspections and approvals. Glenn Koedding is an excellent project manager. He kept the project on-track and kept me informed about the status of the installation. The gas and electric installers were very professional and completed their work on schedule. The Township electrical inspector remarked that the electrical work was well done. The price for the generator and installation was very competitive and the progress payments were documented and explained in advance. In short, I was very pleased with the whole purchase and installation process and would recommend Green Sun Energy."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Each meter should have a serial number printed or engraved on the face of the meter. Make sure the serial number of the meter you are reading matches your account with the power company. If you live in an apartment complex, the meters are likely located all together. Yours should be labeled according to your apartment unit.

On average, it takes from four to eight hours to replace an outside electrical meter box, not including rewiring. It will take a few more hours if the project requires pros to do any rewiring work. Consult your local electrician about a time estimate for your specific project.

While washers and dryers do not require a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlet to function properly, electrical codes often mandate their use for safety. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires GFCI protection for all outlets within six feet of a water source. This means a washer and dryer must be plugged into a GFCI outlet if they are installed in locations like a laundry room, utility room, garage, or basement. In other areas without a nearby water source, there is no specific requirement, but using a GFCI outlet is still recommended for extra peace of mind. It is always best to consult your local codes and regulations to ensure compliance and safety.

A GFCI outlet is easy to identify. It features two buttons on the face that read “TEST” and “RESET.” Sometimes, the “RESET” button is red. These are positioned in the center of the two three-prong plug-in slots you see on a regular outlet. Some also feature a green light to indicate when the outlet is working, changing to red when there is a problem.

Choosing between 12- or 14-gauge wire for your house depends on the electrical requirements of the circuit. A 12-gauge wire is thicker and can handle more power, making it better suited for devices such as kitchen appliances, air conditioning units, or electric heaters.

A 14-gauge wire is thinner and can handle less electrical current than a 12-gauge wire. It's ideal for circuits with lower power requirements, such as lighting or general-purpose outlets in bedrooms or living rooms.
