"Demayo tile was incredible. I prior had a very bad experience with another contractor and I needed someone reliable to fix our bathroom. Mike and his team were extremely professional, responsive and did an excellent job. They went above and beyond to redo our plumbing and helped us obtain the correct products needed for our project. The tile looks incredible. They were also very clean and removed all tile, dust etc. We are beyond thrilled to have found Demayo tile and look forward to using them in the future if needed for additional projects. We highly recommend for your home!!"

"EXCELLENT WORK - HONEST GUY - FIVE STARS I really did not want to tear out our original 1950's bathroom tile. When Jon from Franchetti Marble and Tile looked at it neither did he. He appreciated the retro look and did not want to destroy it. He recommended removing the old grout in the shower, which was the worst area, and regrouting it. He saved me about $7,500.00! Despite the fact that he could have made more money on the job, he was honest with me. The new grout gives it a newer, cleaner look. I am very happy! Jon is courteous, responsible, respectful of my home and cleans up. It's hard to find this type of work ethic these days. Thanks, Jon. Nina Scarpa Merchantville, NJ"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

Whether you want to match your tile trim with grout comes down to your personal preferences. If you match the two, it can help your tiles to stand out while providing a clean, cohesive look. On the other hand, you might opt to match your tile trim with your tiles. The best option will depend largely on your tile design, as well as how it fits overall with the rest of your room.

Uniform spacing between tiles is important for a professional and clean appearance. To achieve this spacing, tile spacers should be placed between the tiles and left in place until the mortar hardens and the tiles are secure. You can use X-shaped spacers vertically in between the tiles and laid flat at the corners.

There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.

Deciding between using a shower pan or tile will likely come down to the shower’s design. You can learn how to install a shower pan liner, but it has a standard look similar to most other showers, though there is some flexibility for material and color choices. Tile, on the other hand, can be customized and is set directly into the shower base. However, a shower tile floor is more difficult to install than a shower pan.
