"We went with Matt and team for our kitchen remodel and the process could not have been smoother. The project was completed to our standards, on time, and within budget which is really all you can ask for from a contractor. While Matt did not give us the cheapest quote, we found the pricing fair and even asked him to complete some additional projects, like replacing our front door. Matt was professional and easy to work with and told us exactly what needed to be purchased and when which helped keep everyone on track. We would highly recommend Matt and team and plan on using them for additional projects in the future."

"This is the third and largest project that Cesar has done for me. He is without question the best contractor I have ever used. His tiling work is fantastic! He is Knowledgeable, Honest, Fair and completely trustworthy. We were away for long periods of time while he worked alone in our house. I won't even consider another contractor for any additional work that we would do in the future. We just did two bathrooms with him and they came out perfect. Cesar is an easy guy to work with and has a great work ethic. He's a first class, stand up guy!"

Customers say: Quality work

"They are not local to my area. Please, hire local. And this is for Angi: Try not to recommend contractors who are a significant distance away, in this case around 80 miles (and 2 states) away. Great website, appears to be professionally designed and maintained, I like what they do (judging from the content in the website) but I am outside their service area. I don't live in that area. If I owned a home or apartment in that area, I would hire them."

"It was my second project with Picasso Construction-full basement renovation last summer. From start to finish ,about 6 weeks, everything was done according schedule. Working area was left safe and clean by the end of the day. My vision was carried out exactly the way I wanted it. I will recommend them to everyone!"

"It's been a fantastic HGTV Moment for me and my family! Our old home is a beautiful New Home. I'm in awe of their details to design. I researched for a year for a reputable contractor and Home Improvements Done Right did not disappoint. From the first meeting and all through the project, Daniel and Mauricio's pleasant personality kept me at ease. The two cared and constantly asked for my opinion and if their work was satisfactory. And they have TOP WORKERS! Always on time, pleasant as well and thorough. Daniel and Mauricio have changed the contracting game. For anyone who doesn't chose them for their projects are taking a major risk. I will definitely recommend Home Improvements Done Right to anyone who will listen. And I will chose them again and again."

"When we bought our house we needed to completely replace the carpeting with laminate flooring before we could move in. Pat helped us get everything handled quickly and the floors came out looking great. He was very knowledgeable about the process and we will definitely be working with him again for other home improvement projects."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, using certified lumber and engineered wood products for reduced environmental impact.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

For a professional carpenter, installing a window seat can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on some aspects of the project. Aside from building the seat itself, if they have to remove any cabinets, shelves, or baseboards, that will add time to the project.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.
