"Called Ralph to replace a 20 year old toilet that was regularly getting clogged. He suggested a reasonably priced toilet that had a more vigorous flushing mechanism. He squeezed me in for appointment since I told him I had guests staying over shortly and and did not want any embarrassing toilet incidents. Ralph and his assistant Peter were very careful, knowledgeable , and neat during the entire removal and installation of new toilet. His pricing was very fair. Would certainly call him in the future."

Customers say: Quick response

"Pipes clogged, tenants complaining it's 6:25 in the morning. I called Scala's Sewer & Drain, and get this, a live person answers the phone it was Mark Scala. He made it to the building on time ready to work, isolated the trouble, fixed the complications, and cleaned up afterwards you would never know he was there. Marks "can do" attitude and honesty has reassured me that there are still businesses that care about the customer and take pride in what they do. Marks personality, professionalism and fair price has given my tenants and I peace of mind. If you need it fixed right the first time, on time, every time Scala's Sewer & Drain is the name. Mark it was a pleasure having you and like your motto "GO WITH THE FLOW"..... J. Alvarez"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Putting caulk around a toilet’s base where it touches the flooring can help hold the toilet in place. A more effective way is using caulk with plastic shim wedges. Place the shims underneath the base to steady and stabilize the toilet. Add some caulk to help keep the shims in place and provide a stronger and more lasting stabilization effect.

Plumbing installation costs in renovations typically range from $300 to $1,500 or more, depending on the complexity and specifics of the project.

No, your toilet tank should not empty completely when you flush. Although the water level will dip a lot after you flush, it shouldn’t be totally empty. If your tank is empty, you might have issues with your fill valve, float ball, or toilet trip lever. You should check all of your toilet parts to ensure they’re working correctly and make any necessary adjustments.

Most codes require 15 inches on either side of the toilet's centerline (from the wall or vanity) and at least 21 to 24 inches between the toilet and the wall in front of it. These codes ensure that your toilet is easy to use and access, even in small bathrooms. Check your local building codes for the exact measurements required.

Toilets typically connect to your main vent stack, a vertical pipe that runs through all finished levels of your home and exits through the roof. It’s located behind the walls, but if you have an unfinished basement or a utility closet, you may find a portion of it running the vertical length of the space. Some basement toilets use an air admittance valve instead, which is a small vent located in the wall directly behind the toilet that extends upward a few feet from the drain.
