"VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - My job involved the relocation and installation of a new Hot Water Heater. I had very specific and detailed requirements regarding the new location of the water heater relative to the vent pipe to the chimney along with the hot and cold water lines as well as the gas line. The Lamco team listened to my requirements and took their time to precisely lay out and measure all pipe sections (water, gas and vent), they used the materials that I wanted (copper, black pipe and stainless steel) and they exceeded my expectations - all for a fair price. When I look at this job, I see piping that is neat, square and plumb - I am more than satisfied with Lamco's work!"

"It went great. I originally received a classic "looks like you'll need a new boiler system" from another company when in fact the boiler didn't need replacing. I called Dawson Mechanical and they did a thorough inspection and tested it. I've used them in the past to re-architect all the pipes running the steam and condensate. Really experienced guys over there. I'm happy."

"Anthony and his partner were friendly and professional. After snaking the drain, they detected a small leak in the garbage disposal and worked to figure that out. They tested several more times and went to crawl space and did more snaking. So thorough! And the work is guaranteed. I highly recommend and will use them again 100%!"

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), you should contact the following officials to report a case of asbestos exposure:

  • Asbestos subject matter experts in your state

  • EPA regional office

  • Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Assistance Information Service Hotline via mail, email, or phone

  • EPA’s Asbestos Ombudsman via phone or fax

Costs depend on property size, test types, and additional services like mold sampling.

If you own a stereo microscope, you should be able to see the fibers. The stereo microscope often can perform magnification up to 50x. But unless you have experience viewing asbestos fibers, you may not know exactly what you are seeing. Some fibers are curly, while others are long and straight. Blue, brown, white, and gray colored fibers are all possible.

If you have an older electrical system with fraying wires and other signs of damage, removal  may be the best course of action. When asbestos begins to break down, it's more likely to become airborne, increasing the risk of health issues when it's inhaled.

However, if the system is in good condition and doesn't have visible signs of wear or damage, leaving it alone may be the safest course of action. An asbestos abatement and removal professional can help you determine the best way to proceed.

Unlike some home problems, such as water damage or pest infestations, asbestos can be very difficult to spot. Asbestos is a mineral in the form of microscopic fibers and was previously used in building materials for its bonding and fireproofing abilities. Insulation, roof shingles, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, pipe wrappings, soundproofing materials, and textured paint features like popcorn ceilings are common sources of asbestos, particularly in homes built before 1980.

Age is perhaps the biggest indicator of asbestos, as legislation passed in the 1970s labeled asbestos as dangerous and regulated its use in building materials. Signs of age in the form of wear and tear or material degradation are also indicators that asbestos fibers may be leaking into the air, but ultimately, it’s difficult to detect with the naked eye. If you have reason to suspect asbestos in your home, it’s best to hire a certified asbestos inspector.
