"They were responsive, accurate and professional. They worked out the problem, found a solution and completed the tasks promptly. The technician, Bill was terrific, as was his associate. Whenever I have problems with Antenna reception or for TV issues, these are the people to call. In these troubled times they came protected and were conscious of their customers needs. Thank you. "I am an IT Technician & Manager with 15+ years of experience. Because of this, I contemplated installing my HDTV Outdoor Roof Antenna myself. However, during my planning I soon realized that I was not equipped to tackle this task and I certainly was not able to get up & onto my 30 ft high roof. So I decided to hire a professional in this field of work. I submitted my request on HomeAdvisor.com after 10:00 pm on May 17, 2015 and Mr Paul Lynch contacted me the next morning (May 18, 2015) before 8:00 am. We discussed in detail the nature of the project and finally the cost. His cost for the project was extremely competitive and it was the lowest in comparison to the quotes I received from three other companies. On the day of the installation, he arrived on time and promptly began the installation after we discussed & examined everything that needed to be done. The nature of my installation was very complex and challenging, but he was able to get the project completed. His work is extremely neat and professional. One of the things which stood out was... at the side of my home there was a "spaghetti patch of wiring", left over from old DishNetwork, DirectTV, FiOS and Optimum Cable services. Previous technicians would simply "work around" or "add to" this patch of wiring. Mr Paul Lynch "made things right" by removing any old unused wires and kept all of the relevant wires, which he neatly laid out and secured with commercial strength zip ties. He also corrected a problem with the "coaxial wire ground" and reinstalled it properly... all of this at no extra cost. Now I am enjoying FREE OVER THE AIR BROADCASTING (20 HD channels & 35 SD channels), because of my professionally installed HDTV Roof Antenna. I would highly recommend the service of Mr Paul Lynch to any of my family and friends. If you were to hire him, you too would be extremely pleased as I was and still am."

TV Antenna questions, answered by experts

Yes, professionals re-mount and realign antennas for optimal signal reception.

Signal loss, loose mounts, cable damage, and weather-related wear often require repair.

Before your TV antenna stops working, there are a few ways to tell it’s starting to break. Some common signs that your antenna needs repair include:

  • A repetitive “no signal” issue

  • A redundant “searching” issue

  • Increased signal issues during a cloudy or rainy day

  • A sudden drop in signal strength, regardless of the weather

If you’re experiencing these problems, you’ll want to ensure that your cables are still in good shape and have not deteriorated. In addition, check to make sure that your cables are firmly in place at the wall outlet. Finally, check the position of your antenna to ensure there are no obstructions in its path. If you’ve checked your antenna thoroughly and are still having these problems, a repair is most likely needed by an antenna technician.

If you’re having problems with poor reception, here are some simple tips that may help improve the signal and picture quality.

  • Consider the position of the antenna: Could it be higher, is it secure, or are nearby obstructions interfering with the signal? For a directional antenna, you may need to reposition it in the direction of the broadcast tower.

  • Move any metallic objects: Metal can interfere or block reception, so if you have stainless steel objects or the antenna is near a wrought-iron fence, this could be a problem. Try to keep the antenna at least six feet away from metal objects..

  • Cable length: An overly long cable can reduce signal strength. If you don’t need as much cable as you are using, it may be better to exchange it for a shorter one.

Yes, in general, raising your TV antenna will improve your reception. Besides raising the location of your antenna, you should try putting it by a window. In fact, you can have the same antenna but get double the channels or more if it's in the best location. The highest spot to put a TV antenna will be on your roof, and the tallest type of outdoor antenna is a tower.
