"I decided to upgrade several elements of my home and hired Merryfield. They were fabulous. Lew (co-owner) helped me to figure out what I needed, but at the same time, respected my simpler taste and budget. The work crew was terrific. I work from home 3 days a week and I was totally comfortable while they were there and equally comfortable when I wasn't there. I have a snarky dog whom the crew completely charmed. I can't say enough about the friendliness, cleanliness and politeness of the workers. I found the folks at Merryfield to be good communicators, timely and flexible. They stayed very much within my budget. I couldn't be happier with the outcome!"

"CMP was responsive, easy to work with, and at a fair price.  My driveway is approximately 1200 sq feet and had drainage issues.  They removed the old driveway and installed the new driveway along with a drain system to ensure drainage to the street.  In addition they power washed my steps and front bricks and painted the railing.  Overall the front of my house went through an overhaul and looks a thousand times cleaner and more attractive.  CMP was easy to work with and responsive.  I found it easy to communicate with them via email.  They were responsive and found the time to get the work done despite poor weather.  I would definitely work with CMP in the future."

"This company performs quality workmanship. Our project was performed seamlessly and we are very very satisfied with the construction work. The owner oversees everything personally and was always readily available for any questions that we had or any changes that we wanted to make. I would recommend this company very strongly. "Jeremy Cottingham was recommended to me for some projects I needed to have completed in my home.  He was responsive, showed up on time and very professional.  His pricing was very reasonable.  I recently had a lot of remodeling on my house and there were a few items that my last contractor did that needed to be redone.  Jeremy re-made some attic storage space doors that blended right into the walls.  They came out amazing!  He also opened up a closet and installed bifold doors.  I was so happy with the job he did I contracted him to finish off a cabinet that my original contractor left undone.  I was more than satisfied with the results! It came out beautifully..I was more than satisfied!  I plan to use Jeremy to do a custom cabinet work and shelving around a fireplace I am having installed.  I have no question it will come out great.  I highly recommend his work.

"Our first meeting with Yakup Koksaldi, the President of t h e company, was very productive. We told him what we wanted and he sat there and drew up the plan exactly the way we wanted it to be. He was cool and professional and never once pressured us. He was honest and gave us good advice. We did an addition (23'x14'), with an A roof. They started work in June 2016 and completed the job by mid August 2016. The work was neatly done and up to code. From the foundation to the roof, the skylight, the energy efficient Windows, the heating system, laminate flooring, electrical system and light fixtures . Everything was done with great professionalism. The workers were polite and worked effortlessly. We are very pleased with the outcome of our addition. Since completing this job, we already had them come back to do a small project. We have recommended them to our friends because our friends just love our addition. We can't wait to start a new project with them. They are, certainly the best."

Home Building FAQs, answered by experts

Yes, you can finance cottage construction through several options. Construction loans provide funds in stages as work progresses, while home equity loans or lines of credit are available if you have existing property. Some lenders offer a combined construction and permanent mortgage. Always review loan terms and payment milestones before committing.

The longest part of building a custom home is the design phase. It takes multiple professionals and a ton of work to bring your vision for your dream home to life while sticking to a homebuilding budget and also ensuring everything is built to code. Expect the design phase for a custom home build to take six months to a year.

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.

Whether a prefab home is worth it or not will depend on your personal needs and preferences. Overall, prefab homes tend to cost less than traditional homes, although they also tend to have lower resale values. Another thing to consider is that prefab homes usually last 50 to 60 years or longer, while traditional homes last 50 to 100 years or more.
