"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"I decided to upgrade several elements of my home and hired Merryfield. They were fabulous. Lew (co-owner) helped me to figure out what I needed, but at the same time, respected my simpler taste and budget. The work crew was terrific. I work from home 3 days a week and I was totally comfortable while they were there and equally comfortable when I wasn't there. I have a snarky dog whom the crew completely charmed. I can't say enough about the friendliness, cleanliness and politeness of the workers. I found the folks at Merryfield to be good communicators, timely and flexible. They stayed very much within my budget. I couldn't be happier with the outcome!"

"I was very pleased with the service.  He had to make a few adjustments which I was happy how everything turned out.  I would recommend him both for the price and the timeliness of his service.  I am now very happy with my new driveway."

"Jeremy Cottingham was recommended to me for some projects I needed to have completed in my home.  He was responsive, showed up on time and very professional.  His pricing was very reasonable.  I recently had a lot of remodeling on my house and there were a few items that my last contractor did that needed to be redone.  Jeremy re-made some attic storage space doors that blended right into the walls.  They came out amazing!  He also opened up a closet and installed bifold doors.  I was so happy with the job he did I contracted him to finish off a cabinet that my original contractor left undone.  I was more than satisfied with the results! It came out beautifully..I was more than satisfied!  I plan to use Jeremy to do a custom cabinet work and shelving around a fireplace I am having installed.  I have no question it will come out great.  I highly recommend his work.

"Our first meeting with Yakup Koksaldi, the President of t h e company, was very productive. We told him what we wanted and he sat there and drew up the plan exactly the way we wanted it to be. He was cool and professional and never once pressured us. He was honest and gave us good advice. We did an addition (23'x14'), with an A roof. They started work in June 2016 and completed the job by mid August 2016. The work was neatly done and up to code. From the foundation to the roof, the skylight, the energy efficient Windows, the heating system, laminate flooring, electrical system and light fixtures . Everything was done with great professionalism. The workers were polite and worked effortlessly. We are very pleased with the outcome of our addition. Since completing this job, we already had them come back to do a small project. We have recommended them to our friends because our friends just love our addition. We can't wait to start a new project with them. They are, certainly the best."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

While some highly experienced homeowners can frame a house independently, it is not advisable. You will need ample carpentry experience, a team of helpers, and professionals to sign off on your work to meet local building codes. For the safest outcome, we recommend buying or building a house with the guidance of professionals.

Framing is often the most expensive phase of building a house because it’s time-consuming and requires a lot of materials. It costs between $20,000 and $50,000 on average, depending on materials and labor costs. Before construction begins, it’s possible that purchasing land is the priciest step in the process. Some plots of land sell for $3,000, while others cost upwards of $150,000.

In most states, you can build an in-law suite on your property as long as you follow local building codes. However, it's important that you have enough space on your property to accommodate the new structure. A functional in-law suite in your backyard will require between 300 and 800 square feet of space.

The early stages of building a house are harder than the later stages; laying the foundation and framing the house are two of the most challenging steps. However, it varies for everyone. Some people have difficulty installing HVAC, plumbing, and electricity, while others find it harder to plan the house and secure the necessary permits.

Handypeople usually don’t hold trade licenses, so they typically aren’t qualified to tackle projects involving installing or making alterations to plumbing or electrical lines. Below are some jobs that a handyperson usually won’t be able to complete:

  • Installing plumbing for a new kitchen or bathroom

  • Replacing plumbing pipes

  • Installing or repairing septic systems

  • Running new electrical wiring

  • Installing a subpanel
