"We needed a cloudy window repaired quickly before closing on our house. John picked up the window, repaired and returned it the next day. His pricing was great and gave us a 5 year warranty on the repair. John is punctual, responsive and does great work. We already called him back for another job. This time the windows were beyond repair but John answered all our questions and gave us a recommendation for a place for new windows. He went out of his way to steer us in the right direction even when he didn't have to. I wish all contractors were like this."

"It was a pleasure to meet and work with Tony. He responded quickly to my phone call and asked me to email him a list of the various jobs I needed done. I sent him an extensive list but most did not need immediate attention. The items I needed done immediately were listed above. After speaking again on the phone, he came within a few days. He was able to complete the jobs quickly and most efficiently. The installation of the entry door lock was most important. Tony checked out the instructions and was able to put it together quickly so I could use my front door again, I will be contacting Tony soon again to continue on the projects I would like to have done. I recommend him highly."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Most window screens in residential homes are designed to be removed from the inside, especially with double-hung, single-hung, and casement styles. That said, some setups require exterior removal. Older homes or custom installs may have exterior clips or brackets, and sunscreens are almost always mounted on the outside. Before removing your window screen, look at how it is held in place.

Yes, a variety of screen materials cut out glare from the sun. Solar screen material can block up to 90% of the glare and heat from the sun, saving on cooling costs. It also offers privacy yet unlimited outward visibility. The cost depends on the size of the screen roll, but solar screens cost between $25 and $90 per roll.

If you’re not keen on using a traditional doggie door, there are some alternatives. One popular option is a solid, insulated door that you can lock when you’re out of the home for added security. You can also opt for a doggie screen, which you can lift and lower to allow your pooch access to the outdoors. These are a bit more convenient to use than a regular exterior door, although security could be an issue. You can also install a screen door with a small opening for your pup to prevent bugs from coming inside as your dog exits.

It is generally recommended to remove window screens for the winter, especially in climates with heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures. Removing them helps prevent damage to the screen mesh and frames that can be caused by ice and moisture buildup between the screen and the window. Taking out the screens also allows more natural light and warmth into your home during shorter winter days and makes it easier to clean your windows thoroughly. In warmer climates where harsh weather is not a concern, the decision is more about personal preference; some homeowners prefer the clearer view, while others leave them in for convenience.

Solar screens use a thick mesh of polyester to block out the UV waves and solar heat. While they are more expensive at about $7.50 per square foot, they can protect your porch or hardwood floors from sun damage and keep the room or porch on the other side of the patio cool.
