"Called Big Timber for a free estimate for a tree removal. Estimator came out within 3 days of the call (other companies were scheduling 2+ weeks out for estimates). Price was fair given the complexity of the job - it was a medium-sized tree, but in a tight spot with not much room around it, hanging over a fence, a pool, pool equipment including a gas line for the pool heater - and no bucket truck or machine access; tree would have to be climbed and all cut parts hand-carried out. Upon scheduling for the job, date was set for less than 2 weeks out. Crew arrived on time as scheduled and worked quickly but carefully to complete the work. All branches dropped with precision in tight space, stump cut as low as possible, clean cut. All trimmings removed and chipped on site; by the time the crew was gone, there was no evidence they were ever there, except of course for the tree stump where a full tree once stood. "My wife and I hired Maple Tree and Landscaping after dealing with various landscapers over the years that just did not work out how we wanted to. Maple Tree and Landscaping was recommended to us by one of my wifes friends and I can honestly say I have never been happier with how my yard has come along. The gentleman named Dario is such a professional and his work will speak for itself. If I could rate them more than 5 stars I would in a heartbeat. If you are looking for a Landscaping service, look no further."

"We had a tree in the front yard that was very large. We had hoped to save it. The arborist from SavATree tried to think of a way to save it, but in the end the only option was to take it down. The team that came to do the work was careful and professional. They took the tree down and chipped it on site. Great work!"

"Chris Cochran and CC Tree Expert Tree Services do amazing work, VERY neat and safe. They brought in a compact SpyderCrane, to access and remove trees in and behind my very narrow side yard. They removed these trees with surgical precision, avoiding any damage to my lawn, house, air conditioners, gutters, yard ornaments, deck furniture, and garage. Then, using a larger crane, they carefully removed a huge sidewalk tree entangled in multiple electrical lines. They honored their original quoted price to me, and they only charged me a nominal additional fee for extra stump grindings I requested AFTER the original quote. I had asked them to grind 2 preexisting stumps that were very close to the foundation of the house and to the garage, and I had not asked for a definite quote, because there was no way to know in advance how difficult this would be; but because Chris was so professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and experienced, I trusted him to charge me an honest price, which he did. They placed protective mats over the lawn, A/Cs, & against the siding on the garage to prevent damage. Afterwards, they raked, picked up branches, blew away all the sawdust, and hauled off the tree trunks for recycling. Any passersby wouldn’t be able to tell that I had had any tree work done, because they left it all so clean. Best of all, they employed so many safety measures that I never feared that anyone would get hurt, despite this being a very dangerous job. Chris is also an arborist, a tree expert, whom I had consulted previously, to determine whether any of my trees were diseased and posed a hazard. He thoughtfully examined my trees and selected only the trees that were beyond saving, as well as determined the likely diagnoses for the tree diseases. I would absolutely hire CC Tree Service the next time I need an arborist or tree trimming and removal service. They were impressive, met all deadlines, were VERY reasonably priced, and they far exceeded my expectations. They were honest, safe, insured professionals with excellent communication skills, safeguarded my property, and they cleaned up after themselves!"

Arborists FAQs, answered by experts

You can trim just one side of the tree, especially when that side is growing near something like a power line or a home. Pros will carefully trim the tree back until it is safe from that structure. While this is common, it also needs to be done with the utmost care, as pruning or trimming away at one side of the tree may make it structurally unsound. This instance is yet another where hiring a pro is wise, especially if power lines are involved.

It’s not as common for Dutch elm disease to affect other types of trees, especially if the surrounding trees aren’t elms. However, it is possible for DED to spread to other trees, particularly in northern states, like Minnesota. In fact, it’s a good idea to use geography to identify wood and determine which types of trees are in your yard.

Unfortunately, the complex and shallow root system of elm trees makes surrounding elm trees particularly vulnerable to DED. Early discovery is key!

It may be possible, but transplanting a large, mature tree can be a tricky project, and some trees handle it better than others. If you have a tree you need to save and are considering transplanting it elsewhere, we highly suggest calling a tree removal service and arranging a consultation to see what they say (and how much a full transplant would cost).

Dying trees and even dead trees can spread diseases to other living trees. There are many different types of tree diseases, so it’s essential to address the issue as soon as possible to prevent the disease from spreading to other healthy trees. If the tree cannot be saved and is infected, you need to have it removed to protect the other trees on your property.

You don’t always need a permit to grind a stump, but you might need one depending on your location and the stump’s surroundings. Permits are often needed if the stump is part of a protected tree species, near public areas or utility lines, or close to environmentally sensitive zones like wetlands. Some cities also regulate noise and work hours. Always check local rules before grinding, and contact your city or county office if you're unsure.
