"They did a Great job choosing correct sliding door needed. Forwarded the exact sliding screen door info needed so I could order it and when it came in he picked it up and brought to home to install. Also cleaned the area. He got here the day after I was advised the door was ready for pickup. "Gregg did an amazing job redoing my 20 year old porch. He completely replaced all the wood, painted it, installed new screens, capped the wood with vinyl and installed a new door. His communication was excellent - always keeping me informed of his progress and any decisions that I needed to make. He kept the worksite neat and tidy during the renovation and minimal disruption to our daily lives. The finished porch looks brand new and the workmanship is outstanding. I would definitely use Gregg again for another project."

"Kevin showed up on time. He fixed the following: replaced 1 x toilet valve, fixed 1 leaky toilet, replaced doorbell, aligned 2 doors that were not closing properly, and sealed gaps around the front door to reduce the draft. Will definitely call Kevin again for future handywork."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

According to the National Fire Protection Association’s Code NFPA 25 (titled “Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems”), private fire hydrants must undergo inspection once per year, with an accompanying flow test and any necessary maintenance performed on the same schedule. Keep in mind that your town, city, or county may adopt more or less strict testing requirements.

There are several tools available to help prevent electrical fires. First, ensure that you have GFCI outlets installed in necessary areas, along with an AFCI, which is a circuit breaker that can help prevent arc-faults. Investing in surge protectors is also wise, as they can safeguard your appliances and other items against power surges that may overload your outlet and cause sparking.

Burning a single palm tree stump, if you’re careful, is technically doable DIY. However, you should always take precautions to control the fire and do research if you’re burning multiple types of trees.

Some trees, such as ornamental trees, black cherry, and some oak trees, release toxins into the air when burned that can be irritating to your lungs (or even dangerous) to breathe in.

Although no heating appliance can be entirely risk-free, a fireplace insert is considered a safer alternative to a traditional open fireplace, thanks to their enclosed design. With a sealed combustion chamber, a fireplace insert effectively reduces the risk of sparks and embers escaping into the room, minimizing the chance of an accidental fire.

Additionally, an insert comes equipped with various safety features, such as tempered glass doors that create a barrier between the flames and the surrounding space. This enhances both safety and energy efficiency by preventing heat loss. As an added bonus, many inserts are designed to meet strict safety standards that ensure proper ventilation and combustion.

Start by checking the top or side edge of the door. Look for a certification label or metal tag stamped with details like the fire rating and information on the manufacturer. Even if it’s painted over, the tag should still be visible. Next, look along the edges for slim intumescent strips. They’re designed to swell up and seal gaps when exposed to heat. Finally, check if the door closes itself. Most fire doors have a self-closing mechanism, like an overhead closer or spring hinges. If none of these are obvious, contact a fire safety professional to help verify your door.
