"I live in an old large home that I like to keep well maintained and updated. David is my go-to guy for almost everything. He’s got an amazing diverse set of skills and he’s friendly, prompt, efficient and trust worthy. Over the past year he’s fixed a number of major and minor electrical problems, installed new power outlets, installed 4 ecobee’s, installed new LED lights, replaced a broken lock on my garage door, fixed a broken front door lock, installed a water purification system and garbage disposal, fixed broken toilets and a few drain issues. I highly recommend David!"

"Just hard to deal with. They installed my Nest cameras here. It was a challenging project with them. Tried to get them to come back and fix some stuff that went out. They are inconsistent to respond. Also, looks like new people there from the first time I dealt with them. It's been one month now since they initially said they would come here to address. Ugh, time wasting. Texted too from the guy from the first. He's not responded so I will assume quit or fired. They seem to be too busy or just poor operations. Regardless, i have go find someone else to do."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Expect to pay between $50 to $200 if you hire a locksmith to change your locks. That figure includes labor and the cost of basic hardware. The cost will naturally be higher if you plan to install more expensive locks, like smart locks, and if you need a lot of them.

Homeowners can save money by replacing locks themselves. A typical rekeying kit costs about $10 to $25. The only additional cost is purchasing new house keys, and those are no more than a few dollars per key. If you want to replace the locks on your own completely, the main cost is the price of the locks themselves. A standard knob-style lock starts around $25, while electronic locks and smart locks will run in the hundreds of dollars. The only additional tools you should need are a tape measure, screwdriver, and screws if they are not already provided.

When the temps drop, sometimes you need to thaw a lock to regain access. Options include warming the key with warm water, applying a de-icing spray, or using a hair dryer on low heat. Avoid using boiling water to prevent damage. To prevent future freezing, consider installing a cover or shield over the lock to keep water and ice out. Remember to be patient and gentle during thawing to avoid damaging the lock or key. If all else fails, consult a professional locksmith.

When you take a key to a hardware store or a locksmith for copying, you can expect the key-cutting process to take as little as 30 seconds. The key copier will review your current key to decide on the correct blank. Then, your original key and the blank are inserted into a key duplication machine to cut an exact key copy. When it’s all said and done, you can have a new key in your hand in just a couple of minutes.

Yes, keyless locks can be quite safe, but their security depends on the type and quality of the lock you choose. Many keyless locks offer added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, making them potentially more secure than traditional locks. However, keyless locks can also be susceptible to hacking, battery failure, or technical malfunctions, so it's important to choose a reliable brand and stay on top of software updates and maintenance.

Find a vetted and trusted locksmith to work on your home so you can feel comfortable and safe. Hire a professional with these qualifications:

  • Search a verified directory of locksmiths near you, like those on Angi.

  • Check for an Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) logo on their website or company logo.

  • Read company reviews. You can also check their social media pages.

  • Ask for a pro’s credentials, insurance, licensure, and customer testimonials.

  • Check if the locksmith is knowledgeable about various topics, from decorative locks to the newest technologies on the market.
