"Our dog broke glass in our front window on a cold, Saturday afternooon in January. I called Glass by Ro and they were at my house in under and hour. Not only did they fix the glass, they took, care of the storm window, which had come off. Their work was immaculate and done with efficiency and care. Highly recommend! I would use them again for any window or glass needs. Fabulous work."

"We had cracks in the dyed mortar of the bricks above our garage. Grady took the time to match the color, even with the color having aged 10 years, and you would not even be able to tell that there was new mortar. If your project is anything like ours, you will not be disappointed."

"The technicians of which one being the owner came out, measured the window, gave me a price and date for when the replacement glass should be ready.  The office called within the timeframe given to schedule the installation.  No issues with the installation and they were very friendly. My wife was comfortable with them around.  The installation was relatively quick.  They cleaned up after themselves any charge the price quoted.

"Excellent. John contacted us promptly with our request for an estimate via Angies List. We had two other professional quotes through Angies list and decided to go with John based on his proposal and our comfort level with him. We had a total kitchen remodel done three years ago by another big box company so we were prepared for the pitfalls of major remodeling. We were very happy with Ernesto who took great pride in his work as well as the excellent plumbing and electrical team John uses. John didn't nickel and dime us for additional unexpected work that was performed. We were so pleased with John that we decided to have him also remodel our master bathroom which was done to perfection. John and his team are trustworthy and also dog friendly. We would highly recommend John for quality home improvements."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Although glass block windows are made of multiple layers of thick glass, they can still break. If an individual block shatters, it can be removed and replaced, but this is a job for a window repair professional. The project is often complex and may require breaking the block further for removal. Do not attempt to handle it yourself, as the broken glass can be dangerously sharp. A professional will have the necessary tools and expertise to replace the broken glass block quickly and safely. Before hiring, confirm that the repair pro has experience with this specific type of window.

Yes, professionals can install decorative or colored glass block patterns for a unique look.

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.

You can still see vaguely into some types of glass block windows at night. Although there won’t be clear definitions, passersby may still see shapes, shadows, and movement through the glass. If you want complete privacy, consider installing diamond glass block windows rather than the typical clear or wavy glass blocks.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.
