"I am very satisfied with the work done in our home. Needed some switch replacements as well as capping off some exposed wiring. Current was timely, professional and reasonably priced."

"I connected with Bob on the phone immediately and did not hire 3 other pros who bid on the job. Bob was very competitive. The quote had to be revised after the fact and after hanging several fixtures however, Bob was very professional handling it and was a gentleman. I trusted both Bob and Chris alone in my home and felt very comfortable doing so. Bob, Chris and their team Rob A and Rob C were perfectionists and extremely competent. The team is very pleasant, professional and easy to work with. Bob and Chris are very reliable, warm and more than competent. Bob has been doing electrical work for 35 years and is up for any challenge. I would hire them in a heartbeat to do electrical work in my house and would highly recommend them!!!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can distinguish the amplitude and voltage of most outlets by looking at the shape and positioning of the holes. Other features like buttons, switches, and USB ports help identify electric outlets, too. Use labeled images, like the ones we’ve included above, to cross-reference with your outlets.

To fix a tripped light switch, locate your home's electrical panel and identify the tripped circuit breaker. It will be in the "off" or neutral position. Flip the breaker entirely to the "off" position, then switch it back to the "on" position. If the breaker trips again immediately, there may be a short circuit or overload in the system, requiring further investigation. If the switch still doesn't work after resetting the breaker, check for loose wires or faulty components in the switch itself. It is always best to consult a licensed electrician for persistent issues and when in doubt.

If you’re interested in exploring other avenues to completely upgrade your electrical panel, it’s also possible to add a sub-panel, which is a smaller panel that connects to what you currently have in place. This way, you can add additional circuits without having to swap out your main panel.

If wiring in a relatively modern home is damaged due to sudden events like a fire, a tree falling into the house, or a flood, then homeowners insurance is very likely to cover the cost of replacing the wire.

However, if it’s determined that wiring failed or started the fire because of age, neglect, or not meeting current electrical standards, then insurance won’t be covering any replacement. Also, insurance policies may charge more for particularly old kinds of wiring like aluminum wiring or deny applications altogether.

You should install a 25-amp breaker for your outdoor electrical outlet. If your outlet is only for use in an outdoor kitchen area for standard appliances, then a 15- to 20-amp circuit breaker should work. However, you will need to install a GFCI receptacle or breaker to ensure that the breaker trips on contact with water.
