"Bob was excellent. Came out within one day from calling him and gave me a written estimate. He started the job by the end of the week and was finished in two days. Workers were on time, courteous, and efficient. Bob was there the whole time and found several other things that needed to be done. He did them ,didn't charge any extra and made sure I was satisfied. The whole just turned out extremely well and looks great. The fireplace chimney was over 38 years old and now looks brand new and is safe again.

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Depending on the model of your fireplace, you can leave your pilot light on year-round. This does use a small amount of fuel, so you’ll save on your energy bill by turning off the pilot light seasonally. Keep in mind that some gas fireplace models don’t have a standing pilot light.

Clean regularly, check for cracks, and inspect the chimney annually for safety.

Modern wood-burning stoves are very effective, reaching around 80% efficiency. That’s because models built after 1988 are designed to meet standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to operate more efficiently and produce less air pollution. If you have an older wood stove, it may not be as efficient.

Minor cleaning and maintenance are DIY-friendly, but professionals should handle structural or electrical repairs.

In many cases, it is worth repairing an old fireplace. You can repair any portion of the fireplace, and even extensive repairs will usually cost less than a full replacement. Most fireplace repairs cost around $600 and top out around $2,500. Replacing your fireplace will cost around $2,500 and reach as high as $4,000. Not only will fireplace repair save you money in most cases, but the process is also much less invasive and time-consuming, so you’ll only have to set aside one day to be home for the work rather than multiple days.
