"Ralph and Peter worked in conjunction with the local water company to replace my water meter and the gate valves on either side of the meter. Ralph arrived time and quickly replaced both valves. He and Peter were knowledgeable, professional and courteous. I already booked Ralph for a plumbing project next month."

"NMP was not the cheapest estimate I got for my water treatment system, but I'm very glad I went with them. Ultimately, the job required updating my well pump and head in addition to the planned updates to the in-house treatment equipment. Not only was NMP great at their job, but the well contractor they worked with did excellent work as well. There was a minor issue with the initial installation of the water softener tank that caused some of the softening media do come out of the tank but the issue was addressed completely. It's been about 6 months since the work was done and I continue to have great water quality and pressure coming into the home."

"Travis and Elvis were very professional on the phone. Travis provided detailed information and answered all of my questions to better help me understand between options when I was choosing a new water heater for my home. Travis provided me with a free estimate and stayed within the price range we agreed to when completing the job. The water heater was installed in a timely manner. I also received a follow up phone call to check how the water heater was working and if I had any questions which I appreciated. I would definitely recommend hiring this company and plan to use them again in the future."

"Offered options: purchase another like it or purchase one from Advanced. I told them to go ahead and put one in. They put the old one back together that day, came back in 2 days, removed old one, installed new one. Haven't priced water softeners in years so no idea if price was good but seemed reasonable. Quick, neat clean-up, great machine. Couldn't be happier."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Generally, it is safe to bathe in yellow water, as the color is often caused by iron, tannins, or rust, which won't harm your skin. Soap will still clean you effectively, though the water might leave stains. However, if the water has an unusual smell or you suspect contamination, avoid bathing and contact a plumber for an inspection. A professional can also help if you find bathing in yellow water problematic and want to determine how to get your water clear again.

It’s not a good idea to oversize your water softener. Doing so will mean the tank doesn’t get full, which can lead to channeling. This leads to a large portion of the resin beads not being utilized and the beads at the bottom of the tank being overused. Over time, this will reduce the efficiency of your system, not to mention that the upfront cost of an oversized softener is unnecessarily high. If you have a timed regeneration cycle rather than a demand-based one, you’ll also spend far more on replacing salt than you need to.

Drinking hard water is not known to have any negative health impacts. Using hard water can lead to dry skin and hair, and the minerals in hard water can build up in pipes, faucets, and appliances. Hard water is more of a threat to your plumbing than it is to your health.

It depends on the type of surface. For instance, if you’re trying to get rid of hard water deposits on glass, you can spray vinegar onto the surface and wipe it off with a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge. However, if the deposits are on granite or natural stone, it’s better to use baking soda and water rather than vinegar or other acidic cleaners.

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.
