"Russ’s crew from Shop at Home Flooring installed laminate flooring in my living room in mid October of 2021. I was satisfied with the finished result, but as of late June when the warmer weather started, the floor has been buckling and lifting up in a particular area. I contacted Russ and explained the problem and provided him a video that shows the problem. He told me I needed to run a dehumidifier in order to solve the problem which I have been doing with no results. If anything it has gotten worse. I contacted Russ to let him know and was told he would send out Paul (one of his crew members) to come and look at it. This was on July 26 and I still have not heard from Russ after numerous attempts to contact him. I have filed a dispute with Thumbtack, the app I used to hire this company, and Russ has not responded and has since removed his company info from the from the thumbtack site. In the meantime I have had two contractors come out to assess the problem, both telling me that in their opinion the floor was installed improperly. Still no response from Russ or his company. Very unprofessional. Would definitely not recommend!"

No, thick carpet padding isn’t necessarily better than thinner padding. The appropriate padding thickness will depend on the type of carpet and the amount of foot traffic in the area.

However, thick carpet padding can damage low-pile carpet, which is used in the busiest parts of your home (like hallways and entryways). For that reason, it’s best to use thinner, heavier padding underneath carpet in high-traffic areas.

There are a few things to think about if you’re deciding whether to repair or replace your carpeting. For starters, consider the extent of the damage and the age of your carpet. If there are minor rips and snags and your carpet is still relatively new, it might make more sense to just replace the affected section. Otherwise, if your carpet is nearing that decade mark or has widespread damage, it’s more logical to replace your carpet entirely.

Acclimating laminate flooring cannot be rushed. Laminate flooring needs at least 48 hours to acclimate properly to its new environment, and being patient during this time can make installation go smoother because you will not be dealing with boards that have expanded or contracted during the shipping process. While it's possible to cover asbestos tile with carpet, it's not recommended. Encapsulating tile beneath carpet doesn't eliminate the health risks. Over time, the asbestos tiles could degrade, releasing fibers into the air and potentially contaminating the carpet. Disturbance during carpet installation or removal might also release fibers.

When installing carpeting on your steps, start at the top and work your way to the bottom. That way, you can easily control the carpet and create a better seal. This approach prevents the carpet from bunching up or creating wrinkles as you work. You’ll have better leverage over it as gravity helps guide it down each step.
