While the warranty repair itself was completed, the rest of the visit was a masterclass in aggressive and dishonest upselling. The technician presented me with estimates totaling nearly $1,800 for "Peace of Mind" replacements that were completely unnecessary. The Main Issue: Misleading Code Requirements Most concerning was the technician's attempt to charge me $639 to replace my existing flexible gas lines with hard piping. He claimed that "gas code requires" refitting the water heater to 1/2" iron piping and that my current setup could cause pressure issues if other appliances were running. This is factually incorrect.
