Serving the Nashua, New Hampshire area by providing fireplace installation, fireplace mantel installation, garage door installation, gutter installation, gutter protection services, insulation installation, shower enclosure installation, bathroom hardware installation, shelving storage systems installation and waterproofing. Local Relationships. National Resources. Call us today! Or email us at [email protected].

"This company may not be for you. After they blow in insulation the holes they made, in my case, were not adequately filled and then mudded over. Now my painting contractor wants a fortune for a drywall company to come over and re-do the job so it can be painted without the big sunken, underfilled holes showing through. Be sure you specify what you expect so that when you paint it will look as you'd want your home's ceiling to look."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

An outdoor spigot needs some attention before the temperatures begin to drop. Using an insulative cover is just one part of minimizing a frozen spigot and pipes. You’ll also need to shut off the water and drain the spigot, which leaves as little water as possible in the pipes to prevent freezing.

Water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but the actual temperature that can cause frozen pipes can vary. Generally, it takes 12 hours for pipes to freeze at 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Uninsulated pipes can freeze if it’s 20 degrees Fahrenheit or colder for over three hours. If your pipes are insulated, it can take six hours or longer for pipes to freeze. Note that some pipe types freeze more often than PEX pipes. Copper pipes freeze more often because the copper conducts energy and loses heat quickly.

Whether or not you need to insulate exposed ductwork depends on state and local building codes. There is no national requirement for duct insulation. Even if your local codes don't require it, duct insulation can be useful to increase the efficiency of old, thin, or flexible duct materials. Ducts should also be insulated in basements and ceilings to avoid condensation.

Winterization includes blowing out water, shutting off the system, and insulating exposed components to prevent freezing.

Not necessarily. A higher R-value simply means that the insulation has a higher heat resistance and performs better in terms of how much heat passes through the material. This can be better for some homes, or it can be too high of an R-value for other homes. Again, your climate zone determines whether the insulation is better for your home.
