"Pleased to provide this review. I wanted to hire this company immediately based on first impressions alone. Jim was friendly and confident with an obvious attention to detail. The estimate contained everything we talked about. My only hesitation was that they were the lowest estimate we got! I’m deliberate about these things, so I got one more estimate after the one from Portanova for a total of 4. Jim was great. I met Alex who was also great. The roofing crew was impressive to say the least. Very hard working and clearly talented. There was a point in the middle of the afternoon on the first day when I was a little concerned about the mess around the house. It had started to seem a little out of hand, and then just a little bit later, as if by magic, it was like they had never been here. Really impressive. AND the roof looks great! I would hire this outfit every time!"

"Long Roofing went above and beyond when installing our roof and gutter. The job turned out more difficult than we thought it would be but Long Roofing made me feel comfortable and reassured that they would fix everything. Everyone involved from the salesperson to customer service listened to our needs and treated me with respect. The roof looks amazing. I don't want to get into price, but even though you may get someone less expensive, using Log Roofing was well worth a little extra cost"

While the terms are often used interchangeably, wood shakes and wood shingles have notable differences, primarily in their manufacturing and appearance. Wood shingles are machine-cut on both sides, resulting in a smooth, thin, and uniform product. In contrast, wood shakes are typically hand-split or sawed on only one side, giving them a more textured, natural, and rustic appearance. Due to these manufacturing differences, shakes are generally thicker, heavier, and less uniform than shingles. They are also more expensive. Homeowners seeking a more rustic aesthetic often choose shakes, while those preferring a more uniform look may opt for shingles. Both are installed in an overlapping pattern to create a durable, weather-resistant roof.

Verify that your roof is licensed and insured by visiting your state's contractor's licensing association. Most states have a database to double-check your contractor's name and address against the information provided. The contractor should also display both their license and insurance on their website with links to the related agencies.

A shingle roof costs between $7,500 and $24,000 in total. The exact cost depends on the size of your roof and the number of bundles of shingles required. A bundle of shingles typically costs between $40 and $60, though contractors might be able to get a lower price than you’d get buying from a local hardware store.

The cost to install roof heating cables typically ranges from $500 to $2,000, with an average of around $1,000. On a per-foot basis, you can expect to pay between $8 and $15 per linear foot. Key factors that influence the final price include the size and complexity of your roof, roof pitch, the type and length of the cable, the price of the system itself, labor fees, and whether any additional electrical work is required. Generally, smaller roofs will cost less than larger ones. The total cost usually includes both materials and professional installation.

If a home isn’t properly winterized, the pipes can freeze and burst, causing flooding and massive property damage. It can also leave your house susceptible to pests, which can infest it and cause significant damage. Winterizing a home can prevent many potential issues and save you money on costly repairs.
