"Gary called me within minutes of posting project on site. Met with me the next day (end of June 2023) to go over project. Told me his per square foot rate, which I agreed to. Bragged about how sourced his stone locally and also told me that the stone was included in the quote. Gary said he was 3 weeks out. I agreed to everything. Said he would get me samples the following. Did not hear from him the following week. Called him. He seemed aggravated that I was calling him after he did not respond to my text or phone calls. Said he would call me the next day to tell me when he would show up to do job. Never called and did no hear from him again. Strung me along for a month and then ghosted me. Very unprofessional, rude and would not use him if he was the last mason on earth."

"He started great, but went down hill. 5 months to install a new heating system after being told it was 5-6 weeks.I was told he had no idea when he could finish because he started a 92 unit condominium project. On another project they installed an HVAC system with no control board. Lied to continuously about dates. We paid in advance for the work and found out afterward that he fired half the staff (I now know why.) Rather than be upfront about the issues he was facing we told lies. Very frustrating and found Devin to talk like an excon. Say one thing and do another with a very straight face."

Yes, it’s a good idea to use paint primer on your brick fireplace before painting it. Brick is highly absorbent, so your first few coats of paint will likely seep into the surface of your fireplace, allowing the natural color of the brick to seep through. Cracks in the chimney can be very serious, depending on their location and size. Even small cracks can become serious over time if left unrepaired. You can also hire a carpenter for $35 to $100 per hour, plus the cost of materials, to install shiplap around your fireplace. If you need help installing a fireplace before adding the shiplap, labor can cost $225 to $2,180 for fireplace installation costs. 

The most inexpensive option is to paint the brick facing of your existing fireplace. You can create an interesting design with the right color of paint, as long as the brick is in good shape. Sometimes, simply cleaning the brick fireplace makes a big difference in the way it looks. Otherwise, covering an existing stone, brick, or masonry fireplace facing with stucco or concrete is an inexpensive option versus tearing out the existing material and refacing the fireplace.

If you want to avoid damaging your home's brick, you should always use a stain specifically formulated for masonry projects. These stains are designed to penetrate the porous surface of the brick and bond with it, unlike paints, which sit on the surface and are prone to peeling and flaking. Look for stains labeled for use on brick or other masonry surfaces. Avoid using regular paint on brick, as it will not adhere well and will likely lead to future maintenance issues.
