"This company wasted several weeks of our time without providing a sufficient apology or explanation. They initially scheduled service while asking in a voicemail if I wanted to base the estimate on the detailed specs in my email or if I preferred to have the owner walk through. I followed up within 2 business days to confirm the date at the end of July and mentioned either option would be okay with me, but I wanted to confirm whether my specification was sufficient with the owner as I felt there were some non standard parts involved. I patiently waited and followed up from time to time. This is the full timeline: June 30 at 4:18 p.m.: I called. The owner (Evan) picked up and mentioned the company was finishing up for the day and just taking emergency calls then, while adding that his secretary would follow up with me the following week. I mentioned that I sent an email the same day with a full breakdown of the work. July 6, 1:48 p.m.: The secretary left a voicemail to confirm a July 26 appointment with an arrival time of 8:15 a.m. and sent an email to confirm the scheduled date and time. In the voice mail, I was asked to follow up to see if I wanted an in-person estimate or if an estimate based on my email specs was sufficient. July 10, 11:41 a.m. I called to follow up, but received an automated message indicating the number has calling restrictions that prevented completion of my call. I followed up via email (below). July 11, 2:47 p.m.: I sent a text message to a 978 area code number, which seemed to be the number that the main number forwards to, to confirm receipt of my email while mentioning the automated message issue. July 12, 10:22 a.m. I called to follow up as I did not receive a response to the email. I wanted to make sure they knew I confirmed the date and time, and I wanted to discuss the estimate options. I immediately received a text message back from the 978 area code operated by the secretary, adding that she was on another call. I did not receive a call back that day. July 14, 9:23 p.m. I followed up via text message, asking when would be a good moment to catch up regarding the upcoming work. I received a call back from the secretary at 9:30 a.m. I summarized my July 6 email. The secretary indicated she would get back to me that day after discussing the project with Evan. I did not hear back. ** July 18, 9:54 p.m.: followed up again over email for when the team arrived the following day while providing the above breakdown so they understood my frustration from a customer perspective. July 19, 7:55 p.m.: I received an email from the owner indicating he cancelled the appointment while being sorry that our communication has not met your expectations, which I felt was interesting as the lack of communication would be frustrating to any customer, and his response incorrectly suggested that it was just my expectations at issue. Frankly, when a company commits to a job, they should always follow up. I emailed the owner back right after and asked for clarification, but I never received one. I should note that this electrician has worked for me before. I was overall happy with the service, with some caveats. On a job at my new residence, they installed new outlets as some existing outlets installed by someone else prior had safety concerns. During the install, I noticed that some new outlets were not as eye-level as they were before (this was not an issue with the available leeway around the outlet, as there was some). I asked one of his installers nicely if some could be moved a bit to be eye level, and the owner (Evan) overheard this and announced that this was a safety visit and not a cosmetic one. This did not make sense to me."

Doorbell Installation questions, answered by experts

Some storm doors might need two closers, depending on the weather conditions in the area. For example, if it’s particularly windy where you live, installing two storm door closers (instead of one) can prevent your door from slamming shut when it’s propped open. You can place one at the top of your door and another at the bottom.

No, a storm door should not replace a regular door. It lacks the durability, insulation, and security of a proper exterior door. Most storm doors have lightweight frames and minimal locking hardware, and they aren’t meant to stand alone. While they work well as a backup to your main entry door, relying on one as your only barrier would likely lead to drafts, higher energy bills, and safety concerns.

A well-installed storm door in good shape can add value to your home. But if it looks shabby or is hanging off its hinges, it could have the opposite effect. In general, the mere existence of a storm door likely won’t fetch you much more on the sale price of your home, but it can improve your home’s curb appeal and help it catch the eye of more potential buyers.

There are a few ways to make your storm door less drafty. For example, if the bottom of your storm door is letting in air, you can lower the door sweep so there’s a smaller gap between your door and the floor. You can also install weatherstripping or apply caulk around the door frame.

There are several types of storm doors, including vinyl-clad, steel-clad, aluminum, and wood-core, and each type has its own benefits. For example, vinyl-clad storm doors are excellent at keeping out water, while steel-clad storm doors hold up well against high winds. There are also multiple styles of storm doors, ranging from full-view (made entirely of glass) to high-view (with just a small glass panel).
