"Cinderella Painting did an excellent job power washing and staining the deck, stairway and railing.
They were prompt, payed close attention to details and helped choose the correct stain based on the current condition of the wood.  I would definitely call them again.

"I am very satiefied witht he work that was done by PIC Home Pros, and with the men who did the work. they kept me informed every step of the way, and treated me and my house with respect. (With one small exception: one of them emptied a bucket of dirty water into one of my flower beds.)
When I was negotiating with PIC Home Pros about doing the job, they obtained financing for me. They didn't discuss the finance charge, and, shame on me, I didn't ask. The company emailed a contract to me in an attachment I wasn't able to open. Before I got to asking them for a paper copy, I decided to put off the work to see if my incurance company would cover at least part of the cost. They didn't.
When the job was done and I was authorizing financing, I discovered that the finance charge I unknowingly agreed to is 13%. That's much higher than I'm happy with.
Would I have agreed to that finance charge if I had known it? I don't know. But, at least, I would have tried to negotiate it down a bit. Would I have succeeded? Who knows? Whould I have been able to get a better deal elsewhere? again, who knows. But I would have liked to have had the chance to try.

"Richard was amazing. We had been away from home for several months and returned to a complete nightmare in our basement. The entire floor was buckled in the two rooms on the finished side of the space and there was black mold growing up all the walls. I called NE Renovations after reading their reviews on Angie's list and within a few hours Richard, the owner of the company, was at my house assessing the situation. He informed me that the problem was caused by a failing water tank on my furnace, which seemed obvious after he said it, but would have never occurred to me. He let me know that my homeowners insurance would likely cover the damage, again something I had never considered, and then offered to work with my adjuster. From the moment I hired NE Renovations to do the work, Richard was available to deal with anything that came up. I've worked with a lot of contractors over the years and have never had an experience like this. Richard was there when the adjuster did the inspection, undoubtedly paving the way for the smooth experience we had with our claim and communicated with us every step of the way to make sure we understood what was happening and why. Because they were dealing with mold removal, an extreme amount of care went into the demolition process and Richard always kept us informed about the safety of the environment. He always followed through on what he said he would do when he said he would do it. His team was skilled, professional and considerate. They used high quality materials and did high quality work. Our basement looks better than it ever did before the damage occurred. I can't imagine how the experience could have been better. We will never use another company to do work that NE Renovations can do."

"Patriot Earthworks did really excellent work on a challenging job in a short period of time. We had a deck on a very steep hill with difficult access that needed ten new concrete pillars. Derek clearly knew what he was doing and promised and delivered everything he promised and more on this challenging job. Concrete was well-covered and heat provided to protect it setting during close-to-freezing conditions. Skylar was the contact person and was always responsive. She took the time to send us photos and a video of the job as they progressed (since we were living offsite). Derek and crew did an outstanding job of the highest quality. We give them our highest recommendation."

Siding questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible, but professional installation ensures weatherproofing, insulation, and proper fastening.

You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.

Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.

Although dish soap will work to clean some of the grime off the aluminum siding, it may not kill mold and mildew as efficiently as a cleaning solution you can buy at a hardware store. If you have oily or greasy substances on the aluminum siding, rather than mold and mildew, dish soap should work extremely well.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

Stucco is considered a type of cladding because it includes a built-in ventilation layer, a weatherproof membrane beneath that, and, often, a layer of insulation to improve building efficiency. The multiple layers of stucco—the scratch coat, the brown coat, and the finish coat—also create a more complex building membrane, so it’s more accurate to call it cladding. However, homeowners and contractors alike refer to stucco as siding.
