"Rich Clifford has done this cement work for many years working with his father. One would think he, therefore, is an expert due to his living in and knowledge of the area and his experience. Rich & company never recommended a footing. We were told, after the fact, a footing should have been installed! He poured a 6” thick slab, and not the 8” thick slab that was contracted and paid for. The slab is slanting toward the back corner of the garage instead of out of the garage...causing water and/or ice to pool in the garage throughout the year. We paid 1/2 up-front before work was started upon request from Rich. He grabbed another payment, upon his insistence, when slab was poured and boards were removed. He never returned to finish walls. We measured the slab to discover it was only 6” deep, and therefore, not above driveway grade which also contributes to the water flooding the building. This is first year of the slab and it has cracked in several places leading to structural integrity. Business practices are questionable."

Concrete Repair questions, answered by experts

Trenchless sewer replacements are actually a great solution for sewer lines located under concrete. A professional can still sleeve and burst old piping to make room for a new one without having to dig up your slab.

Foundation settlement should be a concern if you notice it happening suddenly and years after construction, if the settlement results in signs of structural damage in your home, or if it happens after a flood, nearby sinkhole, or earthquake. Some signs of severe foundation settlement that should prompt you to call a repair specialist include sloping or uneven floors, large cracks in your foundation, moisture issues or pest infestation in your basement or crawl space, and an uneven roofline.

You can patch minor cracks and damage yourself using concrete fillers or mortar. Larger damage may require full replacement of affected slabs. However, water damage to your concrete will never disappear unless you address the root cause causing the water to cumulate. To prevent future damage, you can also waterproof your concrete.

Yes. A foundation wall can usually be replaced, but you’ll want to call a foundation professional.

Homeowner’s insurance doesn’t cover foundation cracks unless they’re a result of a natural disaster like an earthquake, vandalism, or a vehicle accident that causes sudden damage. Taking care of your foundation to prevent problems with expansive soil and drainage is considered ongoing maintenance, and your insurance company expects the homeowner to carry out that preventative maintenance.
