"This company wasted several weeks of our time without providing a sufficient apology or explanation. They initially scheduled service while asking in a voicemail if I wanted to base the estimate on the detailed specs in my email or if I preferred to have the owner walk through. I followed up within 2 business days to confirm the date at the end of July and mentioned either option would be okay with me, but I wanted to confirm whether my specification was sufficient with the owner as I felt there were some non standard parts involved. I patiently waited and followed up from time to time. This is the full timeline: June 30 at 4:18 p.m.: I called. The owner (Evan) picked up and mentioned the company was finishing up for the day and just taking emergency calls then, while adding that his secretary would follow up with me the following week. I mentioned that I sent an email the same day with a full breakdown of the work. July 6, 1:48 p.m.: The secretary left a voicemail to confirm a July 26 appointment with an arrival time of 8:15 a.m. and sent an email to confirm the scheduled date and time. In the voice mail, I was asked to follow up to see if I wanted an in-person estimate or if an estimate based on my email specs was sufficient. July 10, 11:41 a.m. I called to follow up, but received an automated message indicating the number has calling restrictions that prevented completion of my call. I followed up via email (below). July 11, 2:47 p.m.: I sent a text message to a 978 area code number, which seemed to be the number that the main number forwards to, to confirm receipt of my email while mentioning the automated message issue. July 12, 10:22 a.m. I called to follow up as I did not receive a response to the email. I wanted to make sure they knew I confirmed the date and time, and I wanted to discuss the estimate options. I immediately received a text message back from the 978 area code operated by the secretary, adding that she was on another call. I did not receive a call back that day. July 14, 9:23 p.m. I followed up via text message, asking when would be a good moment to catch up regarding the upcoming work. I received a call back from the secretary at 9:30 a.m. I summarized my July 6 email. The secretary indicated she would get back to me that day after discussing the project with Evan. I did not hear back. ** July 18, 9:54 p.m.: followed up again over email for when the team arrived the following day while providing the above breakdown so they understood my frustration from a customer perspective. July 19, 7:55 p.m.: I received an email from the owner indicating he cancelled the appointment while being sorry that our communication has not met your expectations, which I felt was interesting as the lack of communication would be frustrating to any customer, and his response incorrectly suggested that it was just my expectations at issue. Frankly, when a company commits to a job, they should always follow up. I emailed the owner back right after and asked for clarification, but I never received one. I should note that this electrician has worked for me before. I was overall happy with the service, with some caveats. On a job at my new residence, they installed new outlets as some existing outlets installed by someone else prior had safety concerns. During the install, I noticed that some new outlets were not as eye-level as they were before (this was not an issue with the available leeway around the outlet, as there was some). I asked one of his installers nicely if some could be moved a bit to be eye level, and the owner (Evan) overheard this and announced that this was a safety visit and not a cosmetic one. This did not make sense to me."

"I want to thank the staff at the Stratham NH location. As a new customer, we got off to a bad start with a scheduling misunderstanding. After my earlier review, I want to acknowledge that they reached out to me to turn a negative experience into a positive one. It's nice to know that this company cares about their customers. I am very happy with the service they performed on my recent Generac generator. The customer service department and the technician were very professional and courteous. I would recommend this company for your generator needs."

We’re Your Local Plumbers, Heating and AC Technicians, and Electricians. Get prompt and professional plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical services. Our quality staff of licensed and local plumbers and electricians have been providing local plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electric services in the New Hampshire area since our beginnings in 1986. At our heart, Heritage is a family company with a longstanding reputation for providing quality service for a fair price. People tell us that they see our service trucks everywhere in the area, which is true since there’s a good chance that one of our technicians is also your neighbor. This makes it easy for us to be at your home promptly to help you solve your household plumbing, heating, AC, and electrical problems. It also makes it easy for us to do all that we can to maintain our reputation for quality service. One way we continue to improve the quality of our work is through regular training and certification for our great attendants who are behind the scenes making the magic happen. So whether you are struggling with a clogged drain or a noisy furnace, or you need an installation of an appliance, you’ll see the results of our devotion in the service you receive. If you’re experiencing a problem with your plumbing, heating, AC, or electricity at home, then you should give us a call and see what we mean by quality service that’s guaranteed. From clogged drains to AC installation to electrician’s work, we offer a variety of quality services and products at fair prices to NH residents and northern MA residents—guaranteed!

"All I needed was a replacement for a broken, rusted toilet flange that was set in cast iron. The technician was very professional, and the quality of the work was excellent—I could never have done it myself. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 only because of the cost ($650). To be fair, I didn’t get any other estimates, but it did seem a bit expensive for a job that took only one hour."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Leaving lights on raises the electric bill, but not as much as having high-wattage light bulbs. The best way to save on electric costs is to swap your light bulbs to LED or CFL bulbs that use far fewer watts. You can also use smart lights and light switches to control usage via a smartphone or voice-controlled device.

The most common type of electrical outlet is a 3-prong outlet, which has two flat blades (one is wider than the other) and a round grounding pin. Older homes typically have 2-prong outlets that aren’t as safe as more modern options and are generally not up to current electrical codes.  Other outlets you can find in your home include 20A, 125 volt varieties for larger appliances like refrigerators or washing machines.

There are also GFCI outlets, which protect against electrical shock in wet areas, such as bathrooms and kitchens, and arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) outlets, which protect against electrical fires caused by arcing.

If your outlet needs to be reset multiple times, you likely have a problem with the outlet, the reset button, the wiring, or its connected circuit breaker. If the reset button doesn’t work and the circuit breaker isn’t the issue, it’s likely a problem with the outlet or the reset button it’s attached to.

Most 200-amp panels are allowed 40 breaker slots, though they can accept more circuits with the installation of tandem breakers. To determine the right number of breakers for an electrical panel, panel manufacturers will give their products a rating. That rating is used to limit the number of electrical circuit breakers on the panel. You can check your panel for a rating or ask your electrician to weigh in.

While you might not need to put lights and outlets on separate circuits, some local codes may require that you use separate circuits. Installing a separate circuit helps prevent total darkness in your home when your receptacle outlets take on too much power and blow a fuse or trip the breaker. It also costs less and is easier to simply install a new circuit.
