Small jobs welcome

"He came out right away, was very friendly, and professional. He explained what was wrong and what needed to be fixed after looking at it in a way that was easy to understand. I greatly appreciate his help and the work he did to fix some damaged wires and replacing a fuse so we had a working thermostat and air conditioner. If I need an electrician in the future, I will be calling Prestige Electric!"

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"Casey is that guy you donâ t hesitate to refer to others. He is professional, reliable, on time, and knows his stuff. One of his jobs he completed was overhead canned lighting throughout our house which can create a big dusty mess. Our house was clean and the lights looked so beautiful. I wouldnâ t hesitate to contract for anything electrical"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Your outlet should be a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). These outlets will cut power off in the case of an electrical fire, keeping your home and family safe. Extension cords can also be GFCIs. A local electrician can replace older outlets with GFCIs, if necessary.

You can verify an electrician’s license with your local licensing department and request proof of liability insurance from your electrician. You may also want to seek out online reviews for first-hand testimonials.

If your outlet needs to be reset multiple times, you likely have a problem with the outlet, the reset button, the wiring, or its connected circuit breaker. If the reset button doesn’t work and the circuit breaker isn’t the issue, it’s likely a problem with the outlet or the reset button it’s attached to.

A GFCI outlet is easy to identify. It features two buttons on the face that read “TEST” and “RESET.” Sometimes, the “RESET” button is red. These are positioned in the center of the two three-prong plug-in slots you see on a regular outlet. Some also feature a green light to indicate when the outlet is working, changing to red when there is a problem.

You can identify Federal Pacific Stab-Lok® breakers by the label on the front of the panel that says “Federal Pacific” or “FPE” and the breaker itself should say “Stab-Lok®” either on the face of the panel or a label inside the panel door. The Stab-Lok® breakers are also usually red on the breaker switch.
