"Communication was great and they were very thorough. They were very professional and courteous. They also showed up when they said they would. I had the ceilings painted on the main floor of my house. They had to work around crown molding so I appreciate the extra care taken in the prep work. It really brightened up the space!"

"I worked with Mike, Paxton, and Ryan as they replaced flooring in my basement Livingroom, bedroom, bathroom, 2 small hallways, and stairs with landing. They were amazing to work with - they provided ongoing updates, were sensitive to our schizoid cats, and answered questions professionally. They explained what was needed, listened to any concerns I would have, and helped us to consider next steps in addressing possible mold issues in our basement. I cannot recommend them enough or everyone at Fix it all. It was great seeing Curtis again as I considered baseboards with great recommendations. They are 80% done with the project at this time and I couldn't be more excited to see this dream come true! Thank you to Fix it all and the best group of workers I have been blessed with. Warmly, Andi"

"Ecolecuá offers a unique collaborative approach with her clients. On our project, she struck the perfect balance; she listened to our ideas and feedback but very much maintained her role as the creative expert, making us feel comfortable the entire time. I would absolutely recommend Ecolecuá with no hesitation. With all she has done, she is going to find the right approach for just about any client. Aileen Dominguez Dentist, Boston, Massachusetts"

"I was so very pleased with the work that Straight Edge Painting did for me and would highly recommend them. Everyone I spoke with concerning the job was friendly and professional. The painters did a great job with the cabinet painting. They were respectful of my property, were careful as they painted and cleaned up after the job was completed. The quote I received for the job was reasonable too. All around, a very good experience and I am so happy with the results, also a big shout out to mike for helping us with the estimates & invoices."

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

You can paint over lead paint, or “encapsulate” it with a special paint that includes an ingredient called an encapsulant. The EPA approves encapsulation as a lead paint removal method as long as the paint remains undisturbed. Standard types of paint without an “encapsulant” from the big box stores or hardware stores do not meet EPA standards for remediation of lead-based paint.

Think hard before deciding to German schmear your home’s exterior brickwork. If you do not like the look, you are pretty much stuck with it, as it is impossible to remove this finish the way you can remove paint. You risk damaging the underlying brick if you have to chisel and acid-wash it away. It will also take a very long time, and remnants of the mortar wash will always remain.

You do not have to remove lead paint if the surface is not chipping or peeling or if there are no pregnant people or children under the age of six who live in or regularly visit your home. Lead paint is a particular risk for young children whose brains and bodies are not fully developed. Experts strongly recommend that you call a pro to remove lead paint if it’s peeling or flaking, no matter who lives in the home. You can experience lead poisoning by breathing in or ingesting just a small amount of it.

You can find chemical and naturally derived paint thinners to remove paint without as much sanding. A heat gun or pressure washer can also remove paint from large areas. However, sanding is often the best way to remove the final bits of paint that remain on the surface.

Yes, paint thinner can damage some surfaces. Specifically, it can cause a lot of damage to laminate flooring if applied incorrectly.
