"The job went well. Sarah is professional and the crew she sent to install were professional and most skilled in their trade. We have used this company before and that is exactly why we called her when we need to replace this area of flooring in our home. The price was not so much a priority as the trust in the products that Sarah recommended and the proper installation and guarantee of their work."

"Fence installed, finally. Construction in this area is so backed up. So when my original contractor had to put my neighbors and us back to August. While speaking with a friend I worked with at VA Coatesville, he suggested HomeAdvisor. Within 2 hours, on a Sunday, Home Advisor sent me Luis, owner of LMJ General Construction LLC. After working on another full time job, he and his crew showed up and worked another 3-4 hours for 3 evenings and 8 hours today and closed the gate on this job. Great work ethic, respectful, but more importantly very competent."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

For Wilmington homes, knowing the property’s age, construction type, and foundation condition is crucial for flooring installation. Elevation and flood risk inform waterproofing needs, while proximity to water and HVAC details help determine the best flooring materials. Sun exposure, soil composition, and any historic district or HOA guidelines also influence project choices, ensuring the flooring contractor can recommend solutions tailored to local conditions.

Helpful?

In Wilmington, cosmetic flooring projects often focus on updating finishes, refreshing colors to suit coastal styles, or adding decorative patterns. Functional projects, however, address issues like subfloor repairs, waterproofing for flood-prone areas, and improving insulation for energy efficiency. After severe weather, full flooring replacement may be necessary. Increasingly, homeowners also request modifications for accessibility to accommodate changing needs.

Helpful?

In Wilmington, flooring contractors start by examining the subfloor for moisture issues and stability, especially in older or historic homes. They also review the foundation, inspect for signs of mold or asbestos in existing flooring, and check HVAC systems for proper ventilation. Attention is given to room transitions, plumbing locations, and sun exposure, since strong southern light can impact flooring installation choices and long-term durability.

Helpful?

Flooring in Wilmington benefits from regular humidity control, such as using dehumidifiers during humid months to prevent warping. Frequent sweeping and mopping help remove beach sand and salt residue. Window coverings can reduce sun fading, while annual professional cleaning and sealant checks help preserve floors. Hardwood may need refinishing every few years, and grout in tile floors should be resealed to protect against moisture intrusion.

Helpful?

Quality flooring installation in Wilmington is evident when the subfloor is level, a moisture barrier is properly installed, and expansion gaps are consistent to handle humidity. Materials should be acclimated to local conditions before installation. Look for smooth transitions between rooms, secure fastenings, and trim work that fits tightly. Confirm that adhesives and finishes are rated for coastal humidity, and that all local permit requirements have been met.
