"Mr. Danzy and crew did an outstanding job replacing subflooring and putting new flooring down. The crew was very friendly and knew exactly what they were going. We have another project coming up and will definitely hire them again. We highly recommend."

"A coworker recommended Triangle Reconstruction for the crawlspace sealing, I was happy to find out they could do the floor joist installation as well. Everyone we interacted with from Triangle Reconstruction was professional and friendly. We would get daily status updates as the work progressed. The crawlspace looks great and now we have level floors."

"Well, until they left. Randy was to return to 1) replace a cast iron shower pan that cracked during installation 3) fix the buckled vinyl flooring his crew put in one bathroom and the pantry and 3) mount a chimney cap. Never did. But the worst is that Randy took a 200 year old slab of old-growth pine (approximately 30" wide by 42" long by 2.5" thick) salvaged from my great-great-grandparents' home and promise me a coffee table. TWO YEARS LATER I CAN'T EVEN GET THE SLAB BACK."

"We recently hired East Coast Crawspace solutions to handle a mold problem we discovered while trying to sell our home. My husband and I decide to sell our home and downsize after living there many years. When we started getting things prepared to sell we discovered we had a pretty significant mold problem along with standing water in our crawspace. Upon the discovery we decide we better try to get a handle on the situation before we started the selling process. The owner of the company Andrew came out hiself and did a no cahange estimate and gave us his recommendations as to what needed to be done to resolve our issues. Within they week his Crew came out and took care of all of our issues. Everything was preformed beyond our expectations and was completely hassle free. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to have work done."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Any bowing in a basement wall indicates a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time for an inspection. Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness (around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick wall) before it becomes an urgent situation. Bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches, which will require significant repairs. If the bowing is more than 6 inches, the wall will likely need to be replaced. The sooner you address the problem, the easier and less expensive the repair will be.

Joists and beams are both part of the flooring system above your basement, with the beams spanning the length of your home and getting support from vertical posts underneath, and joists usually spanning half the width of your home with no support posts underneath. The floor joists provide even support to the subflooring and flooring above, and they distribute that load to the beams. The beams then distribute that load down through the support posts to the foundation.

Yes, you can add a door to your basement—it might even be required, depending on building codes in your area and whether or not you’re using the basement as a bedroom. A basement contractor can give you some advice on installation and help you add a door to your basement.

It is common for a contractor to ask for a down payment before starting a project, especially for jobs that require purchasing materials and equipment or hiring a crew. The deposit amount can range from 10% to 50% of the total job cost. While a request for up to 50% is not unusual, a contractor should not ask for more than that, and you should never pay for a project in full before the work has begun. To protect yourself, always discuss payment terms before starting and have a written contract that outlines the project timeline and expectations. Additionally, be sure to hire reputable contractors and check their licensing and insurance before the project begins.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.
