Alternatively, cut out any resurfacer that touched the joint once the mixture begins to harden.

You can seal your own concrete using materials and equipment from your local home improvement store, but you should make sure that the surface is clean and ready to accept a sealer. Hiring a professional is usually a good idea to make sure you get good, even coverage that will provide adequate protection. You may want to seal your concrete if you expect it to receive a large amount of foot traffic or heavy wear.
