"Alex was great! He was very quick to respond, communicated very well throughout the process of repairing my sprinkler system. He was able to diagnose and repair the clog issue quickly for a reasonable price. He also repaired/replaced several sprinkler heads that were not functioning properly. I would highly recommend Alex and Outdoor Water Solutions!"

"Nain and his crew came to the house and completed the work in a timely manner.  The yard looks great after the mowing, edging and mulching.  They also replaced the mulch in flower and tree beds.  They are responsive to any concerns I've raised and have taken care of any issues I may have had.  They are a little slow to return phone calls, but the work gets done in a timely manner and is of great quality.

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Adding seed to existing grass is often known as overseeding, as opposed to reseeding. Reseeding refers to the process of filling in bare or dying patches of lawn—or in some cases, full lawns—whereas reseeding supports existing lawns to prevent thinning. Overseeding is an ideal annual lawn care practice for grass fighting drought, disease, weeds, or pest issues.

Yes, orchard grass is a perennial weed that will come back each spring. However, if you maintain a healthy, dense lawn in the spring, orchard grass will not have as much space to flourish. Remove signs of the weed early in the spring season whenever possible.

While hydroseeding is typically meant for bare soil, it is possible to hydroseed over an existing lawn with some adjustments. For the new seed to germinate and thrive, it needs good seed-to-soil contact. Without it, most of the seed may not take root and will die. To improve your chances of success when repairing a patchy area, mow any existing grass as low as possible and loosen any exposed soil before application. It is also recommended to use a finer mulch mixture when spraying, as this will help the seeds reach the soil and root without suffocating the existing grass.

The best grass type for shady areas depends on your region, your preferences, and your yard’s microclimate. Overall, the best cool-season grass for shade is ryegrass or tall fescue, while the best warm-season grass for shade is St. Augustine. But again, this can depend on what you’re looking for in the grass. The best grass for your shady yard might be one that looks good to you, one that tolerates high foot traffic, or grass with other characteristics that make it fit your lawn needs.

Technically, yes, at least some of the grass seed you throw on the ground will germinate. If the area doesn’t have good drainage, rain or overwatering can move seeds before they have germinated, leaving your patches still patchy. What does grow won’t have strong roots if there isn’t proper aeration.
