"Excellent attention to detail and communication during project which included excavation alongside exterior wall to remove and replace moisture barrier and stripping interior basement walls and reapplying primer and Drylock. The project also required disassembly and reassembly of wine racks and work benches. Dirk would not quit until he was satisfied that it met his high standard. Extremely pleased and I would not hesitate to hire again. Project came in on budget and clean up was thorough."

"Alex with CSM provided very reliable and professional service. Came out to remove my oil tank at the time they promised, finished in the time quoted and did a great job backfilling, grading and seeding the site. The price they charged seem to be the regional average. I recommend them to anyone needing this type of work done."

"Great experience working with this crew. Professional and courteous. Explained the process of what an inspection would entail and did a thorough and timely inspection during my critical due diligence period. Reviewed the legal implications for the seller and what I would need to do to best remediate the issue as the buyer. For comparison, I spoke with one other company prior to contacting Cedar Rock. The other folks were very apathetic about my questions/concerns and generally earning my business. So if you want the job done right and want a team that will ensure all angles are covered, give Cedar Rock Environmental a call!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can technically make a crawl space liveable, but the only way to do so is by converting it into a basement. While some crawl spaces are big enough to walk through and store large items, they lack appropriate insulation and space to be liveable.

The cost to drill a well varies, with a national average of around $5,500 for a 150-foot well. However, prices can fluctuate significantly based on several factors, including your location, the required well depth, geological conditions, local regulations, and the specific drilling methods used. For the most accurate cost assessment, it is best to research and get quotes from local well-drilling professionals in your area.

The best type of soil to build on is a mixture of sand and clay, known as loam soil. Loam soil has the best combination of these soil types to build a foundation on. The clay particles help with water retention, so it won’t erode like sandy soil might, and the sandy particles help with drainage, so you won’t see unsafe soil expansion or have an increased risk of leaks from water sitting against your foundation.

Digging a bush up by the roots is the most natural DIY method for removing a bush stump. Start by identifying the shrub type and revealing its roots. Cut the shrub to its base and loosen the soil, ensuring no utility lines are nearby. Optionally, treat the base with herbicide, then dig around the roots and cut a circle around the shrub using various tools. Dig a trench, cut the base of the root ball, and finally fill the hole to prevent regrowth. This thorough process ensures complete removal without damaging surrounding areas.

Yes. A metal detector is one of the quickest and easiest ways to find your septic tank. However, metal detectors can be too expensive (costing upward of $300 in some cases), and not everyone has a metal detector just lying around. If that’s the case for you, you can also take a long metal rod and poke it into the ground at regular intervals until you hit something—likely your septic tank lid.
