"Excellent attention to detail and communication during project which included excavation alongside exterior wall to remove and replace moisture barrier and stripping interior basement walls and reapplying primer and Drylock. The project also required disassembly and reassembly of wine racks and work benches. Dirk would not quit until he was satisfied that it met his high standard. Extremely pleased and I would not hesitate to hire again. Project came in on budget and clean up was thorough."

"We were very pleased with the work that Ethan of Greener Horizon Enterprises completed for us. Ethan installed a drain pipe and two boxes to allow water to drain to the back of our property. Ethan’s knowledge of water management and skills in completing the project are outstanding. The project was a success and we are happy to say we are now working with him on a second project."

Customers say: Quick response

"Very pleased with Hawks Transportation. I hired them to demolish a large garage on my property. He also demolished a house for us at another location. Everything was handled very professionally. Travis was wonderful to work with. He did everything he promised to do in the timeframe that I needed. He under promised and over delivered!!! Would definitely recommend and hire again if needed."

"Cameron is the best! Honest, prompt, professional, a pleasure to do business with. His pricing is very reasonable and heâ s transparent about what needs to be done to get the project completed and what the cost will be. He and his team cleared our 3+ acres of land (including an outbuilding) and it looks amazing! Weâ ll be using him for our monthly land maintenance."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.

Yes, you can technically make a crawl space liveable, but the only way to do so is by converting it into a basement. While some crawl spaces are big enough to walk through and store large items, they lack appropriate insulation and space to be liveable.

Almost any kind of home can have a wine cellar or cabinet installed. You’ll need an area where a concrete floor can be put in, along with the necessary insulation, climate control, and ventilation systems. If you think of yourself as an aspiring sommelier, an underground wine cellar may be ideal, but it will cost significantly more.

What you choose to install really depends on your budget and how many bottles you’re looking to store.

The average cost of excavation is approximately $3,200, with typical projects ranging from $500 to $15,000. Depending on the contractor, you may be charged between $50 and $200 per cubic yard or an hourly rate of $40 to $180 for an excavation specialist. The total cost is influenced by several factors, including the project size, the amount of soil to be removed, and the soil's condition. Hard soil, tree roots, or excessive rocks and clay can increase the price, potentially adding $200 to $1,200 to the final bill. Other factors that can drive up costs include the presence of nearby structures that complicate the work or tight spaces that require manual excavation instead of heavy machinery.

There is no standard depth for burying a septic tank; they are typically buried anywhere from 4 inches to 4 feet underground. The final depth depends on several factors, including the depth of your main sewer line, the height of the bedrock, soil type, local regulations, and the property's landscape. If you plan to grow grass or plants over the tank, a depth of at least 4 to 6 inches is recommended. Deeper tanks can be more difficult to locate, but a septic professional can help find it for you.
