"Mark went above and beyond what was expected of him. We encountered more sub floor damage than we thought without blinking an eye Mark ripped it out and repaired it! He even repaired some damage we had years ago that a different contractor was supposed to repair and didn’t get done. He is very attention to detail oriented! We do have a few more projects we would like to get done at a later date! We will definitely be calling him to do it! Thank you Mark for the awesome job! You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.

Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.

Composite siding is very resistant to warping that can affect some other sidings. Because of its composition, this siding doesn’t have the same risks of moisture damage that can cause rotting, buckling, and warping. Composite material doesn’t warp in high temperatures the way some kinds of vinyl siding can.

That said, composite siding is not entirely immune from moisture damage. It should still be properly installed so that moisture can properly drain from behind the siding, and protected by eaves and clean gutter so the siding doesn’t get repeatedly soaked by rain, which could lead to damage.

More durable woods in milder climates may not need to be sealed quite as often.
