"Carlos is the best! His crew is great and he?s so easy to work with. They upgraded my siding from wood to Hardie and fixed wooden stairs. Then they painted the whole building. Carlos also fixed some interior drywall holes for me. Everything was done efficiently, and the price was fair. I would hire Brothers again and recommend them 100%! I connected with them because I saw their van outside my neighbor?s house. She was happy with the siding work they did for her as well."

"Geo is an excellent handyman and very professional friendly. He took great care for the work I hired him to perform to be done right and on time. His estimates are very fair. He jumped right in with his crew and worked as well. The crew he brought with him were very professional and respectful and also friendly as well and the only time I saw them not working was on their lunch break. Geo was great at making suggestions for things to look and work better. Geo and his crew installed a glass storm door on the front door of my home. He also took care of some wood rot near the bottom on the door frame and replaced it like new. He and his crew installed two new screen doors on the breezeway of my home and replaced the floor metal transition strips. Geo and his crew painted 26 shudders on my home to where they look brand new and did not get any paint on my siding. I was so impressed I hired him to do a little job for me in a couple of weeks. Fully cleaned up after."

Siding questions, answered by experts

The best types of siding to withstand hail are fiber cement siding and engineered wood siding. Fiber cement siding is known for impact resistance, while some brands of engineered wood siding can withstand hail as big as 1 and 3/4 inches with no marks. Vinyl and aluminum siding are the most susceptible to hail.

Little maintenance is required beyond periodic washing with a garden hose to remove dirt. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or pressure washers that might damage the siding.

You can put new siding over clapboards, but it’s not recommended. Some sidings, like vinyl siding, can go over clapboards with sheathing like a foam layer in between. However, it’s best to remove clapboard siding if you plan on replacing it with new siding. Burying wood clapboards underneath new siding can create risks of rot and mold, or hidden insect damage. It can also create warping issues over time. Removing clapboards allows you to properly install a new sheathing, as well as clean up the exterior wall and look for any signs of damage.

Yes, it is common for mold to grow on the underside of the siding due to the moist atmosphere. When there is an abundance of moisture, mold has the ideal environment to spread and thrive. This fungus can be found on virtually any surface, both indoors and outdoors. Generally, it is most active when the environment is warm, damp, and humid.

Generally speaking, the thicker the siding, the higher the quality. Thicker siding provides a stronger resistance against extreme weather conditions. Thicker siding also tends to fade more slowly under the sun. Hardie boards, a popular fiber cement siding option, is usually 5/16 inches thick. Meanwhile, masonry-finished cement siding varies from 5/8 to 5/8 inches thick.
