It all started with a trip to the Azores of Portugal. RTA's co-founder went there to meet his wife's family… And had his first encounter with an outdoor kitchen. The charm of that kitchen went far beyond providing meals. It served as an inviting gathering space, and offered moments to break bread together.\n\nThe inspiration from that outdoor kitchen was bottled up and shipped back to the US. Unfortunately, there was a lack of accessible options in America in the early 2010's. Someone needed to rethink the conventional approach of construction. Thus began the journey, with a goal of remastering the outdoor kitchen.

"Perfect, he texted before arriving to be certain we were gone, then texted me again when job complete. My wife was so pleasantly surprised when we pulled back in the drive she actually cried. It was wonderful. Chris did a stellar job, and I'll certainly recommend him to others."

"The entire process of working with Gwyn's Landscaping, from start to finish, was a wonderful experience that exceeded our expectations.  Carroll Gwyn spent a good deal of time listening to our wants and needs for our outdoor space, and offered thoughtful suggestions throughout the initial consultation.  Once the renovation began, the true professionalism of Carroll Gwyn and his staff became very apparent.  They arrived every day early and right on time as they promised, and worked diligently throughout the day.  The entire project went smoothly with very few setbacks, and the crew was always courteous and respectful.  At one point there were items that had been ordered but there was a delay in them being delivered.  Carroll personally drove quite a distance to pick them up to be sure the project timeline stayed on schedule.  Carroll was personally available at any time to answer questions or deal with any concerns we had along they way.  If you are looking to work with a landscaping business that is professional, attentive and experienced, then I highly recommend Gwyn's Landscaping.  In the end, we could not have been happier with the final outcome and have enjoyed using our outdoor living space!  We were so impressed with this business that we did not hesitate to utilize them for further landscaping projects."

He called the day before to confirm the appointment and arrived on time! They came prepared to complete the job. (No running to the store for supplies/materials). Outdoor Kitchens questions, answered by experts

You can build an outdoor kitchen on a deck, but you should choose composite decking since it's more heat-resistant. Metal deck materials like steel and aluminum are also good choices because they're less flammable than wood. You should also consider the weight of the kitchen—make sure your deck can support it and any appliances you plan to use. You should consult a structural engineer to confirm exactly how much weight your deck can safely support when building an outdoor kitchen.

The decision to build or buy an outdoor pizza oven depends on your personal preferences, budget, and time. Whether building is cheaper hinges on the style you choose and the tools and materials you already possess. For example, having a surplus of fire bricks from a previous project can significantly reduce costs. However, if you need to purchase all the required materials, buying a pre-made oven is often the more affordable and less labor-intensive option, with prices for quality versions typically ranging from $300 to $1,000. Keep in mind that while a DIY project can be cheaper than hiring a professional for a custom build, it carries the risk of injury or costly construction errors.

The best types of wood for outdoor kitchen cabinets are those naturally resistant to weather, water, heat, fading, and mold or mildew. Excellent choices include teak, mahogany, white oak, and Brazilian walnut. It's best to avoid softwoods like pine and cedar, as they are more susceptible to damage and can catch fire easily. For extra protection, ensure the wood is pressure-treated. Regardless of the wood you choose, you will need to apply sealants, oils, and stains regularly to protect your cabinets from the elements.

Silestone® isn’t recommended for outdoor use because UV rays can damage the surface. Long-term exposure to direct sunlight can cause discoloration. Instead, choose an outdoor-friendly countertop material like tile, concrete, stainless steel, or natural stone. If you do choose a natural stone, make sure you either seal it or avoid highly porous stones. For example, choose soapstone over marble.

Costs depend on materials, labor, appliances, and whether electrical or plumbing modifications are required.
