"I was very pleased with the work by Tar Heel Fencing! I have both chain link and wooden fencing around my yard. The wooden fence was falling down and they made a beautiful new wooden blockade-style fence. It is gathering a lot of compliments from my neighbors. They also restrung new chain link and repaired the chain link part of the fence. I will have no concerns about my dog or visiting dogs getting out! Diondre and Jason were very nice to work with, and it was clear they were taking the time to do this both correctly and attractively. I highly recommend them!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Fences made out of redwood, cedar, or pressure-treated pine are the most durable. These materials can last anywhere between 15 to 40 years so long as they are properly maintained. Make sure to clean your fence regularly and pressure wash once a year. After pressure washing, apply a sealant and/or fresh paint to keep it looking fresh.

The lifespan of wire fencing heavily depends on factors like gauge, material, coating type, and environmental conditions. However, with proper maintenance, many wire fences last for 20 to 30 years. Coastal areas or regions with high rainfall may see reduced lifespans of 10 to 15 years due to increased corrosion risk.

Yes, in most places. A front yard fence is allowed by local zoning laws more often than not, but it always helps to check before building just to make sure. There may be restrictions around how tall the fence can be, what it can be made from, or where it can be built.

Corrugated metal is a strong, long-lasting material. A corrugated metal fence will typically last several decades, and the metal panels themselves may last for 40 to 60 years. The main thing you should be concerned about is the fence posts. Wood fence posts will last about five years if you purchase them untreated or about 15 years if you treat them after installation. Keep an eye on your posts and look out for insect damage and rot.

The standard height for a split rail fence is three or four feet. This height requires two to three horizontal rails, making it ideal for homeowners wanting a budget-friendly split rail fence. If you’re hoping to contain agile livestock or animals like dogs, geese, or goats, you may prefer to install a six-foot tall fence with four or five rails or a four-foot-tall fence with three horizontal rails. This will help prevent animals from climbing, crawling, or jumping through the rails.
