Laminate flooring takes about 24 to 48  hours to settle. Before this, planks are not completely acclimated to your home, and walking on them could cause shifting and permanent damage to the flooring. You should allow floorboards to acclimate for 48 to 72 hours before installing so that they can adjust to your home’s humidity and temperature levels, but they will continue to acclimate and settle after installation. For this reason, avoid placing any furniture in the room for 72 hours after installation.

Your floors will continue to settle for a few months after installation, becoming less bouncy as they rest.

Concrete flooring, particularly sealed concrete, is the lowest maintenance flooring available. It is affordable, durable, and can last more than 100 years if you seal it and care for it. Far from just being a boring gray, you can stain, stamp, and even paint concrete to match your style and decor. If concrete is not your thing, consider ceramic tile flooring. Vinyl and laminate flooring can have a similar life span. Both well-maintained laminate and luxury vinyl flooring can last up to 25 years. The exception is the thinner type of vinyl flooring that comes in sheets and lasts less than 10 years. It’s important to note that vinyl is waterproof, whereas you can ruin laminate if it absorbs too much moisture.

You can tell if you have linoleum or vinyl floors if you look under the floor's surface. Linoleum floors have color that goes all the way through the tile, while vinyl flooring uses a printed image on the surface of the tile, plank, or sheet. This image often realistically replicates the look and feel of wood, ceramic tile, stone, or other natural materials.

Start the first row of vinyl planks along the longest or most visible wall in the room. This will create a clean, straight foundation row to build off of. Snap a chalk line to guide the first row, and use spacers for the most precise installation—these maintain an even extension gap between the flooring planks and the wall. Finally, double-check that the first row is level before moving on to the second row. If it’s not, start over and get it right before completing the rest of the floor.
