"The roof was done in a timely manner, and it was well done. From the tearing off of the old roof, clean up, and the new roof, it was very well done. I would highly recommend this service as I was very pleased."

"Trey came out and gave an estimate. He was a very nice person and had a good demeanor. The cost of the project ended up being more than 40K, due to underlying issues with the house. WE won't be moving forward with the project, but I'd call them again if I needed an inspection."

Small jobs welcome

Offers commercial services

I am a licensed Professional Engineer providing structural engineering services for residential and small commercial projects. I work with homeowners, contractors, and design professionals to help move projects through the permit process by providing structural calculations, drawings, evaluations, and engineering letters as needed.\n\nIn-person structural inspections are available in Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia. Remote structural consulting is available in Delaware and North Carolina.\n\nTypical projects include load-bearing wall removal, beam and header sizing, additions, decks, foundation concerns, and framing evaluations. My goal is to provide practical, code-compliant structural solutions that are clear, efficient, and tailored to the project.

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

The best way to check if a roofing company is legit is by asking the roofer for their license number. They should have no issue providing you with this information if they’re legitimate. You can also look to see if they have an online presence, read reviews, and ask contractors you’ve worked with before if they know the roofing company.

Most lenders and homeowner’s insurance companies don’t mandate a structural engineer’s inspection, so in most cases, it’s not required. However, it’s a good idea to have one done anyway to ensure you know what you’re buying. You can use the report to carry out repairs after closing or even to negotiate the sale price before closing.

A home inspection typically takes between two and three hours, though the total time can range from 30 minutes to half a day. The exact duration depends on several factors, including the home's size, age, condition, and location. Other variables that can affect the timeline are the complexity of the layout, the accessibility of various components, the size of the surrounding grounds, the inspector's experience, and whether it is a full home inspection or a more limited structural inspection. For a more accurate time estimate, you can ask your potential home inspector to review the specifications of the home beforehand. You should receive the completed inspection report within one to four days of the inspection.

Generally, no. The letter you receive from your landlord may say that they’ll do the apartment inspection whether or not you are home. If you want more time or you want to reschedule to a time that you will be home, you can ask your landlord, but they may not be required to honor your request.

A visual inspection may or may not reveal ceiling joists. Examine the ceiling surface for clues like nails, screws, or small dimples used to attach drywall or plaster to the joists. Look for subtle indentations or ridges indicating a joist beneath the surface. Observe any patterns or symmetrical features in the ceiling that could indicate the presence of underlying structural elements.
